scine09
It is crazy to believe that in this day and age that the media never checked the background of Te'o's story. Never once tried to reach out to her family, school, or friends. Nothing. It wouldn't occur to anyone that this would happen.
titanruss
People taking advantage of gullible people online is common. It doesn't even necessarily have to mean someone was being mean either - when two gullible people with undeveloped relationship skills or whatever meet online they can form a serious relationship, usually built on lies to some degree. Sometimes to massive degrees. Again, go see Tallhotblond - long story short, a sad mother used her own daughter's name and image to form relationships with two men online, one of which killed the other over the "love triangle". I know it's tempting to believe the wildest theory possible, but the reality is usually the simplest theory is true and in this case, it's far more simple to believe he was a gullible religious kid taken advantage of, who tried to cover up the embarrassing nature of the relationship by pretending it was normal when he thought her being dead meant he could lie about meeting her. http://sports.yahoo....-045713273.html no.. it is not far more simple to believe that at all. you are discounting the massive effort going into tricking a person for 4 years by multiple other people. You don't think people are mean? What world do you live in. This guy was played in my opinion. He said he met her, but mos likely didn't. He said he met her and it was clear he was embrassed about the online thing. It's not always accepted away of meeting people even now. I think some of the guys on the team might have given him a hard time about it because that's what guys do to one another. He really liked the girl and these guys played on it who ever it was. what world do i live in? how about the one where it is much more likely that someone faked a GF to gain empathy/sympathy to gain notoriety with evidence that teammates weren't cool with it and some very convenient timing of relationship key points...... than one where a bunch of people played a trick on a guy so hard it last 4 years and he believed the lie so much he lied himself about meeting her but actually had a four year relationship with a group of men who have amazingly strong female personalities, just for shits and giggles. no horny college kid has a 4 year relationship and never actually meets the girl. check and see if he sent her family flowers too. scine09
I've been listening to sirius/XM all morning and pretty much EVERYONE thinks that the guy is gay and hiding it. One guy even called up and claimed to work with an NFL scout of the Raiders and that scout told him 2 weeks ago that there were rumors that the girl never existed and that he was dating Tuiasosopo. And then boom the story hits yesterday.

titanruss
i find it much more likely that the somoan guys would stick together to cover up the gayness and/or create a GF story in order to help out another's career. that is where all of this points to me. NashvilleNinja
Te'o's new theme song That's not it. This one is: Meh... McCarron just bought the best brand of blow up dolls. Manti bought the one they sell at The Dollar Tree.

titansfan
To answer the question I posed earlier in this thread. I think Manti Te'o was just extremely foolish and gullible. I think for a while he probably suspected it was a hoax, but was just too embarrassed to admit it to himself and his family. Thats probably why his family was giving quotes about how he told them he met the girl and her family in Hawaii. This may go down as a major prank of national proportions. We are talking about maybe the most infamous prank ever. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/1/17/3885652/manti-teo-girlfriend-hoax-twitter This story appears to show that a few people knew that Lenny was a hoax and that Manti Te'o was carrying on the relationship in a serious manner. I don't think he's gay. He probably had relations with women at Notre Dame, but simply felt that Lenny was his girlfriend. My question is, when did he realize it was probably fake? I have to think that it had to be in the back of his mind since Lenny kept flaking out on him with excuses like cancer and a car accident. This personality basically did all she could do to not actually meet Te'o, and his dumbass went along with it. Its embarrassing and taking a step back from the situation it is comical if you choose to be cynical. I know there are a lot of people who will feel bad for Te'o, but this is just a humiliating maturation process. The moment he knew it was a hoax he should have just came out and told everyone. I'm pretty sure his teammates were already suspicious why they never saw his girl. The other thing that he should be criticized on is for leading people to believe that he actually knew, met, and had physical interaction with this person. If he gets vilified for that then he has no one to blame but himself. I doubt his draft stock will be greatly affected, other than coaches now simply thinking he's a fully complete idiot. He will get grilled in interviews about this as it will be used to test his mental toughness. We will see if he crumbles. And then when he eventually joins an NFL lockerroom, he's going to have a hard first one or two years unless he becomes a beast on the field really fast. I think he goes somewhere in the lend of the 1st round.

titansfan
Te'o is going have to endure some excruciating days, but this will blow over soon. His stock will not be affected that much... As crazy and unlikely as it seemed yesterday, it appears that his story is actually the truth. And he's never given me any indication for me to not give him the benefit of the doubt... It just turns out his a major dumbass which in the grand scheme of things is not that bad other than the fact he will be second guessed on all his decisions from now on. Some teams will mark him down because that is human nature, but this scandal probably does nothing but knock him down to the draft spot that is more suited to his ability anyway... People were once saying he's the next Ray Lewis, which was overhype. With this story, people will analysis probably the most fairest and unbiased of any prospect...
