This is an awesome thread by the way--thanks to everyone who is putting in the effort to make smart commentary. I feel like this is the kind of conversation coming out of this that I envision being a productive response.

I agree that there have been more thought out posts and not insultuous (even a word?) banter for the first time in a long time, but one of the reasons there is such good conversation is because the gaps between people's thoughts are so wide and such large/important issues. Can't imagine a conversation (without the ability to backspace and wait to type out thoughts) would go as smoothly, especially if it had to do with a lot of people of many different backgrounds and family histories.

It's not just in the African American culture it's everywhere. You will see mexicans who come from mexico and grow up here hate on Mexican-Americans because they are looked as too "white" washed. You have it in almost every culture. Asians do the same with their own people. White people do it as well.

I think big said it best... Its a historic factor, a historic wound that only time can change. If I stabbed you in the leg today, and then the next day I made a law that said no person from any background should be stabbed in the leg you would likely agree with the law. I would then give you proper medical care and whatever, but I guarantee you that if you ever saw a knife in my hand you would be come nervous, apprehensive, and possibly violent if you felt a twinge of threat. It takes time to build trust and equal footing. Its not something that just be manufactured out of nowhere. That's unhuman-like...

But that's the problem....to be a proper analogy, your dad or grandfather would have stabbed my dad or grandfather. If that was the case, I highly doubt I would be nervous seeing you holding a knife...especially considering I carry a gun everywhere I go.

That has nothing to do with what he posted. He stated most of these people saying the shit that blacks deserve "more-equality" as in they deserve more leeway never saw the shit they are complaining about the reasoning why it should be that way. If I lived pre-MLK and whatnot it would be one thing but all those that you hear bitching in the media and whatnot aren't old senior citizens. They are people our age or younger.

Sure, they come from the family background and it is not too far off but you stated it in 1st person if you were the one being stabbed, change you with your father in your scenario and it's a bit more true. But also a bit more unrealistic (understanadable, but not quite as extreme of thoughts race through your head)

You still identify with your background. Your present context is framed by your background which you have no bearing over. You assume that predicament.

That articulation really drives her point home, doesn't it? Anything to link a man named Barack Hussein Obama to extremists. This country has some issues.

That's a huge stretch with that video, which has been cut to make a point. Notice how it clips after the terrorist bit. Did you watch the whole thing? They talked about how it was an intimate gesture between Obama and his wife.

Anyway, this particular discussion has no place here.
