If we had Ringer and Reynaud sharing the load just for one game, I bet the 'OL sucks' argument would finally be thrown out.

Ringer got 59 opportunities last year and he averaged 3.1 YPC, a yard less than CJ. For comparison Leon Washington got 53 chances, averaged 4.7 yards per carry for 248 yards.

He got his chances and did less with it. And you want to hand the reigns to Reynaud, a castoff who got hot at returner in preseason?

Call me crazy, but somehow I think opposing defenses would play the run differently than they do with CJ if Ringer and Reynaud were out there...

Just watched the 1st quarter and charted package and notable alignments (more to come in the Football Prospectus).

  • The Titans ran 3 times out of the Kings set (3 WR 1 TE 1 RB) in all different alignments. (Every TE alignment was different).
  • The Titans ran 1 time out of a 3 TE set.
  • The Titans ran 2 times out of a base set. (2 WR 2 TE 2 RB) with a fullback. All different formations. (different alignments for both fulback and TE).

The Titans didn't run the same play twice. Every alignment was different and the Titans ran out of a pass set 50% of the time in the first quarter. The Titans ran both times out of their base package. (Only two times - need to chart full game). I still don't get complaints over "predictability".

Also my quick take: Chris Johnson is cutting back too frequently. (giving up on the playside too early) and the Titans offensive line is giving up too much penetration. (Got completely blown up on one play). Also, I'm confused by the technique sets the Titans are running from. It looks like the tackles are playing from pass-sets on run plays. (first step is backwards). I'll have to check out why later.

Good stuff. The predictability accusations stem from an entire season's worth of data so don't get to caught up in that after the first game of 2012. It's nice to see that Palmer was more varied in his run calls yesterday but let's see what happens over the course of 3 or 4 games before we claim this is a non-issue now.

Ah, the excuse used when Brown was better than Eddie

Hey man, not counting the prospectus are you going to create a thread with your entire analysis of the running game?

I haven't gone back and re-watched all of CJ's runs....but on the first play they ran with a FB, QJ acted as the lead blocker. He ran to the outside and turned upfield, but never touched a defender.

Instead of following QJ outside, CJ ran it off tackle and got nothing.

Without knowing the playcall, it's impossible to say which guy screwed up...but there was clearly a disconnect there.

The goal is to have everything in the Football Prospectus. If we can get enough man-power it might be huge this week. The NFL tagged all the plays yesterday and this morning, but they still don't have coaches film cut-up. We'll need that to evaluate the secondary play and defensive playcalling. (in addition to route concepts on offense).

So, everyone will need to be patient, but it means that when it comes out it should be accurate and authoritative (peer-reviewed). The goal is to avoid knee-jerk analysis. :)

i really don't know how this thread got turned to CJ. Did ya'll seriously just make up that he was talking shit about our offensive coordinator in order to feel better about your hate? last i checked, no one has mentioned who said the comments.

regardless, palmer has done little with his career and we knew that coming in. I love the offense but hate the playcalling. We knew, and I warned people before he even got here, that his offensive have traditionally had terrible run games (bottom 5 in the league like 80% of the time he's been in the league)

and i still don't know how people can blame the run game even mostly on CJ considering he got hit behind the line on 8 of his 11 carries

Shut the hell up, man. Seriously... no one wants to hear that kind of talk around here. There's too much truth and common sense in there to aborb it all.

Less truth, more filler!
