Question for Oiler Fans

To answer the question, no, I would not follow the Oilers if their identity remained in Houston; I was a fan of McNair and what he brought to the table, which was a perfect fit for Nashville at the time.

Today, I'm disenchanted with the whole NFL experience and tactics to appear as pure as home made apple pie and subject us intelligent fans to their level of over emphasizing their personal "business" objectives to the public forum.

Today, a GM like Ladd Herzeg would be banned for life for allegedly "mooning a weddding party in Buffalo"

Bring back the old NFL!

Regard,

Navi

College is a different animal completely.

But does it have to be? The SEC has the most rabid college football fans in the country, and Titans country is smack dab in the middle of it. By taking those college football fans, and mixing in some Oiler fan crazies, the Titans have some of, if not the most crazed fans around (look at this board for example). I would like to think that given the love for college football that has existed in Titans country, that over time that loyalty can continue to translate to the Titans as well, with a continually increasing fan base, regardless of record.

Would have stayed with the Titans becasue of the coaches and players, at least for a period of time.

But, I might have migrated to the Oilers over time. I definitely would have been more inclined to root for the Oilers because of the history, which tragically ended.

I did get a chill for the Texans playoff game when Bum Phillips walked into the stadium. But I am not a Texans fan. I love it when the Titans beat them.

If the NFL truly believed in fans and not rich owners wishes, the Oilers name would have stayed with the city.

maybe if the titans stick around for 50+ years here. college is almost like family to some, several generations going to the same school. the stadium atmosphere is more crazy because of the giant amount of young 20-somethings sitting next to each other... and the schools have huge rivalries that go back around 100 years sometimes.

it's just not the same with NFL. maybe in greenbay it's different where the community owns the team and they don't deal with the SEC in college.

I disagree that fan support was pathetic given the circumstances of the team leaving. It was about the same as the Tennessee support the first two years there.

Of course it was, because the Tennessee Oilers played in Memphis in 1997 and at Vanderbilt in 1998. Everything changed in 1999.

Of course I would have been an Oilers fan you can't kill that shit.

I was a big fan of Mac and Jeff and the entire team so I would have followed the Titans and rooted for them and I am sure i would always have a soft spot for the Titans but the Oilers the Titans are not.

I have disdain for both fan bases.

The aforementioned fickletude of the Houston sports fan letting Bud waltz away with their name and colours without so much of a fight is just so incredibly weak you start to understand why karmically f'd up they are and why they will continue to be a jinxed sports town.

Then there was the overwhelming apathy of Tennesseans towards the Oilers when they got there...6 people going to the games in memphis...oh we have to drive boo hoo hoo...and then after begging for a team they all decide mmmmm we don;t like that name and uniform please give us something else. We won;t support the Oilers. So like dealing with a bunch of 6 year old retards they have to come up with their own shiny little toys. If they didn't want the Oilers they should;'t have taken the Oilers and they should have applied for an expansion team like the rest of the backward inward small market losers who will never get a team.

In relative terms, the Titans of Nashville are still a relatively young team. And a lot of ppl forget they went to the Superbowl not long after the move, so it they've had success. I'll agree on the whole SEC/UT thing. The state is rabid about college football and slowly but surely, it has been translating to the Titans (hence Bud's sudden mania for Peyton). The games sell out, and even if there aren't asses in the seats, the money is still there and that's what the FO counts and the asses are there more often than not. With the direction the team is heading I look for the next few years to be more exciting that we've had in a while what with VY/Fisher drama finally out of the way. The reason Memphis didn't show is they wanted an NFL team (although I doubt we would have supported it like Nashville) and it was pretty much a consolation prize, and the stadium was old, and there was/is no reason to update it at that time. Now finally, Memphis is a Titan town compared to a *yuck* Cowboy or Steeler town, as they used to be - although the city is a basketball town, which is why the NBA has been successful. All in all, the state is finally getting behind the Titans like they should have a long time ago.

I am glad they changed the name. "Oilers" is a fucking stupid sports name and not to mention they had ugly uniforms.

I did not attend games in Memphis but I went to something like 4-6 in Nashville before Adelphia and 99.

Jags and Ravens I remember were two of them.

I remember that Jags game. Didn't McNair either get hurt or benched? I remember they had a big lead, Jax came back and Dave Krieg came in.

The Ravens game was very low scoring, a Fisher special, as I recall.

The amount of penalties were unreal. 12 in one 19 in the other although not as bad as the home game vs the ravens that I attended the following year that set a record for penalties. We had over 200 yards of them and won that game iirc.
