How often are teams lining up in a straight 3-4 now? Are you moving Jeff to the 5? He obviously can do it but that’s another question. Woods is obviously one of the most talented players in the draft so if they took him because they think the effort stuff was a blip and if they don’t think Sweat is a part of the plan, then I could understand it. Just a debatable use of a high first round pick with all the questions it brings. Woods ideal position is 4i or 5T......Sweat of course is a NT, totally different positions. The Titans have 3 DTs on the field a ton in the current scheme. "Peter Woods is a special defensive lineman whose character, athletic ability, and technical polish make him NFL-ready. Draft Grade: Round 1 - Rare, All-Pro" "relentlessly attacking on second efforts" "consistently the first defender moving at the snap, gaining immediate leverage advantage that disrupts blocking schemes before they develop." What am I missing? Who is "most people" who don't have Woods in the top 10? 9th for PFF Edited December 31, 2025 by tgo rns90
rns90
He probably doesn’t fit Borgonzi’s ideal edge but Bailey should be in consideration especially if they trade down. All these edges have different warts. Faulk has production issues, Bailey size ( or weight), Bain (arm length), Reese—inexperience + light for the position. I like Bailey quite a bit, but I'd have to see it to believe it when it comes to Borgonzi's edge profile so far. New scheme could change that of course, but Borgonzi's edge philosophy doesn't seem to differ from the Chiefs' general edge philosophy. They trade down pick up extra draft currency and select him afterwards.

ctm
The next HC will have something to say about the scheme and the type of players that fit on the defensive front. The Titans currently have 2 DL on the 2026 roster. 3 if you count Horsley who was just called up. Both Day and Lynch are free agents. So they need at least 1 starter for the DL and have no depth. titanskick8851

I think inconsistent is a better descriptor for his performance this year. Edited December 31, 2025 by tgo

In terms Woods specifically I think he is copping the stench of the overriding narrative that there were were players on that team that firmly had their eyes on the NFL and making sure they were healthy for the draft process. I have absolutely no idea how much that did/didn't play into Woods taking a step back this year. I also have to question why the hell is Woods even in the discussion for the Titans inside the top 5. This team is about to hand Simmons the largest IDL contract in NFL history they spent the 38th pick on Sweat they are looking for complimentary depth on the DL not spending a top 5 pick at the position when they have no EDGE 1 or 2, no WR 1 or 2, no CB 1 or CB2. Woods isn't likely to be in the top 3 most talented players available when they are on the clock at pick 4 or 5 which is the most likely outcome as we sit here today. Just because someone is behind someone doesn’t mean they are stuck. Who do you think is better AJ Brown or DK Metcalf? They played together. Ohio State especially has been a WR factory. Even guys who leave there (Jameson Williams) go on to be good/great players. All I’m saying is that if Tate grades out at the top of their board, then they should consider him and it would have nothing to do with fear of him being behind a guy who will likely be a top 3 pick next year.
