Which seems fair if it’s intentional. Is it really that hard to respect other people’s beliefs when they don’t impinge on your own?

It's not about respecting other people's beliefs, it's about legally mandating language in an attempt to control culture and shift perceptions.

Pure nonsense.  Byrd, Gore and Fulbright were liberal Democrats to name a few.   In fact the more Republican the South has become, the less racist.

“Libertarian”   LOL you fucking suckers

They're 100% centrists at the least by international standards

Yeah? How many years have you spent living outside of the United States?

One. In Argentina, actually.

But, as others have pointed out, your experience - or mine - filtered through whatever education (or lack thereof) you or I possess on the subject doesn't trump the academic consensus from people who actually study it.

Frankly, the past few pages were a rough read and I have no real interest in trying to convince you of things that I feel should be baseline. You're welcome to continue denying it.

Conservatives were pissed that they couldn’t treat black people as slaves anymore. That they had to let black people vote. That they had to serve black people at restaurants. That they had to hire qualified black people. That they had to let gay people marry. We needed laws to keep minorities’ rights from being infringed by the majority.

Yes, laws are necessary to keep your beliefs from trampling mine. Conservatives love bitching about “culture war” issues, but in the end it’s always about whether you respect other people’s rights and beliefs or not.

It's about respect for the identity of another being. A teacher who can't muster enough respect for their students to honor their identity in the most basic ways, ways that have zero impact on the teacher themselves, has no business in the classroom.

Unfortunately, many are too caught up in their own beliefs and misplaced outrage to accommodate even the most basic things. You seem intent on this perspective. It's unfortunate but unsurprising, given the lean of other views you express.

I'd encourage more humility and deference towards others, as it relates to this specific subject, but that's just me.

A whole year! In one other country! Wow! Yup, it's all those other people living in a shell!

You don't have to read anything. You aren't very good at it.

If you want to believe there is a simple right-left spectrum, and you can map America on the right side of that compared to 194 other countries, be my guest. I can show you plenty of studies by people who "study it" that show American politics are polarizing faster than other democracies, west or otherwise, and what they are referring to is conservatives becoming more extreme and liberals becoming more extreme.  Here's one.

https://www.brown.edu/news/2020-01-21/polarization

"Political polarization among Americans has grown rapidly in the last 40 years — more than in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia or Germany — a phenomenon possibly due to increased racial division, the rise of partisan cable news and changes in the composition of the Democratic and Republican parties."

First, this post starts from the perspective that conservatives were racists and liberals were champions of civil rights. This simply isn't congruent with history or reality.

Second, mandating that people treat others as equal and outlawing slavery is not the same thing as legally mandating people to ignore biology and reality.

You misunderstand me completely. I have no issue with transgenders and if someone asked me to identify them a certain way - whatever. I have a problem with the STATE legally mandating that I have to. It's not surprising that many on here can't understand why that's a problem. It is disappointing though.

Again, a teacher who can't muster that level of basic respect for their students shouldn't be in the classroom setting. You can call that mandating language if you want but it's really about the respect involved and the mindset of a teacher. Believe it or not, not just anyone is suited to classroom environment and disrespect from a teacher, which is exactly what this is, should be reviewed and steps taken and if they simply refuse to show that level of respect to their students then getting fired is the most obvious penalty and nobody should have a problem with that.

This isn’t about biology. It’s about a minority of people with a psychological condition (gender dysphoria) that leads them to not fitting into the norm people like you are comfortable with. So either you can just get used to letting them live their lives in peace or you can inflict pain on them because you are somehow offended that they don’t fit your conservative worldview.

I’ve spent over half my life living in countries outside of the US. 8 countries so far. You sound like a retard. Hope that clears things up!

Are you being disrespectful to mentally ill people? Why is no one blasting this basic lack of respect!?

Democrats were staunchly opposed to civil rights. It's well-documented.

No one is saying pick on people with gender dysphoria. It's not about inflicting pain, and it has nothing to do with being offended. Again, it's unsurprising that you can't tell the difference, but it is disappointing.
