Byard alludes to the defensive coaching structure last season being a shambles and flip flopping all over the place

Is anyone here really excited about Schwartz though? Didn't just fall back into heavy zone all the time w/ large cushion?

In recent years he's been one of most man-heavy DCs in the NFL.

I think a lot of veteran guys who used to play mostly zone, even LeBeau, started shifting toward heavy man coverage in more recent years.

Could anything Schwartz provides really be worse than what we saw last year.

That's the question...

That gives me hope at least. I just remember him flooding the field w/ zones but I really haven't paid much attention to his career after he left.

He's a guy that is constantly evolving, but yeah he was very zone heavy back in the day.

He's actually in sync with this coaching staff's views on coverage (switching to more man coverage), I think what he will really bring to the table is third down rush packages and red zone packages.

To the point though, Vrabel said last night on his members-only broadcast with PK that communication amongst the coaching staff has been much better this year and that with them being vaccinated they've been able to meet in person and it has made a big difference already.

Anything else interesting out of that chat @tgo

Were Vrabel's comments made after Byard's?

I actually missed the first part of it so I'm listening to that now, but one thing I thought was interesting was he basically nodded to more man coverage but also said "but we're not going to be playing press on third a long" or something to that effect.

He also said he wants to make sure the players do have some carry over from last year for retention and that they clean up a bunch of technique stuff.

I'll post more stuff if I come across anything interesting. I also have yet to listen to Vrabel's OTP Q&A with fan questions from last week.

If they are moving to a predominantly man scheme UCF CB Aaron Robinson would be a perfect pick for them in the 2nd round extremely feisty/competitive guy that is physical in man to man and offers inside/outside versatility.

There was very little in that.  Mostly softball questions.

Hope I didn't ruin it for you.

Love Aaron Robinson.

Oh @AussieTitanFan08 - he also specifically called out special teams and said "that's not the kind of special teams performance that we're gonna need going forward" about last year's unit. Said they didn't improve enough consistently as the season went on. I'm guessing that's what all the ST turnover is about.

We had without doubt the worst kickoff/punt return blocking in the NFL.
