Travis Etienne and why we should draft him over resigning Henry

I'm definitely thinking Edge/CB as well. That seems most likely. I think JR is going to do everything he can to keep our core on O in intact. This is the best Titans O by far that we've had in ages. Hopefully he can find a way to keep Ryan, but I do think he is the least likely to be retained.

 

If we're going to be a team that goes deep in the playoffs now and in the future, you're probably going against Mahomes, Jackson, Watson is in our division. You need athletes who can disrupt the passer if you're playing against those guys.

We won’t get Chase Young obviously, but here’s a quick look at some of the top edge rusher coming out:

 

AJ Epenesa - Iowa

Julian Okwara - Notre Dame

Curtis Weaver -  Boise St.

Yetur Gross-Matos - Penn St.

Terrell Lewis - Alabama

Kenny Willekes - Michigan St.

Jon Greenard - Florida

 

We will have to wait and see who rises and falls, but I could see them picking up someone in FA. 
 

Really curious to see if they bring back Correa after him having his best season so far. As depth of course.

You obviously draft Gross-Matos or Lewis, Epenesa, or Weaver over Etienne but if those guys are gone... then I would take Etienne over any back in this draft. The dude had 45 carries in the second half of games this year alone and look at his numbers. He is insanely talented. He is not as physical or physically intimidating as Henry is, but he is every bit as talented as a runner as Henry with the same big play ability and is a better pass blocker and receiver by a wide margin. 
 

I would love to keep Henry and sign Hunt in FA, but Henry played his way into Todd Gurley money, and now that we have a QB who is actually worth what QBs are getting paid, you can’t pay a RB that kind of money in addition to the QB

 

You could just sign Hunt to 5-7 a year in FA and draft a RB in mid rounds, and go CB and OLB in 1&2 and retain Conklin.

They probably take the out on Wake ($7.7) and drop Walker or reneg his deal ($8.5).

That pays for Henry and frees up using a 1st round pick on a RB.  Dropping Dion Lewis saves another $5 mil.

 

Tgo said we are 61 under cap with release of those guys and cap increase. 
 

we only keep 2 of the big 4 and I assume that is Tanny and Conklin. A transition tag to Henry makes sense as we can opt to not match it and take the compensation of a 1&3 which would be a no brainer. 
 

that could give us Etienne or a different back in 1 in addition to a pass rusher or we can grab a pass rusher and CB in 1 and in 2&3,3 we could grab DL, OL, RB on top of pass rusher and CB early

 

if we did that then I would certainly hope we go hard after Hunt in FA

there are more than one way to skin a cat, or more than one ways to upgrade the pass rush and run game if we let Henry walk

I’m also down for keeping Henry and adding a true 3rd down back that can do it all and give us a real threat on the ground unlike Lewis as long as Henry doesn’t command a shit ton of money. 
 

The best thing we can do is keep Henry at reduced cost and improve his blocking and bring in a much better compliment than Lewis but I doubt he gives us a hometown discount
