I don't think penalizing the Saints does any good because it hurts a lot of people who were not involved. The Saints were originally investigated in 09-10. You honestly think Fisher didn't know that Williams had a history of running this type of program when he hired him? The person, speaking on the condition of anonymity because NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has not made final decisions on penalties, said some of the sanctions could be “unprecedented.” Payton and Loomis face discipline for failing to halt the practice of paying players for big hits on opponents. The bounty system was administered by Williams and involved 22 to 27 players, according to an NFL investigation revealed Friday. The suspensions under consideration are a half-season or longer in some cases, the person said. Several other people in the sport said they expect Williams, now the defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams, to be punished severely. The person familiar with penalty deliberations in the Saints case referred pointedly to the full season suspensions that former NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle imposed in 1963 on Green Bay Packers running back Paul Hornung and Detroit Lions defensive tackle Alex Karras for gambling. And I totally agree with that. Scine said that Goodell wouldn't punish the Saints because it would hurt other people. scine09 Posted March 5, 2012 Report Share Posted March 5, 2012 That's the Rams issue to deal with then. The Rams aren't losing draft picks or getting fines or suspensions to their players. They'd be hiring a coach who broke rules. The Rams can very easily fire Williams today and it will be a non-issue for them. By keeping Williams on the staff the Rams are the ones asking for trouble.
