There’s not a chance in hell Sharpe doesn’t make the roster. We are too lean at that position to give up one of the only guys on the roster to play WR in actual NFL games.

He probably does simply because we have such bad depth at the position. But it’s not a lock. He could be outplayed by multiple UDFAs. They could sign Inman or some other free agent. They could make a trade. They could make a waiver wire addition after 53 man cutdowns.

Just because he played a lot in 2016 doesn’t guarantee him a roster spot.

It’s a total guess on Sharpe. They kept him around after some trouble and the WR core is paper thin, it seems he would be safe. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the #3 WR or doesn’t make the roster.

Matthews situation certainly helps him if it lingers

I’m talking about the roster as it is currently shaped. If we sign someone else then it is likely at his expense.

I assume that fact that Taylor looked like he might be incapable to picking up an NFL offense last year.

I think LaFleur’s offense fits really well with how they used Watkins last year. He isn’t a great route runner, and he isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but what he does have is quick twitch ability to create separation underneath and over the top. I read a link talking about how he was the third or fourth option on the majority of his routes. His speed cleared space for Kupp and Woods.

Taylor doesn’t have to be the guy who runs a perfect comeback route or sits in the zone. He has to be the guy who can beat you on the 9, deep post, deep cross, and deep corner. He also has to show utility in the screen game. If he does then it’s okay if he’s more of a freestyle artist than a technician in this offense. At least that’s my thought from how LaFleur used the slot last year.

On what grounds?

I think he'll be a more polished and reliable route-runner. Sharpe isn't the athlete that Taylor is but I believe he can be trusted to be exactly where he needs to be when he needs to be there. Sharpe is also more sure-handed and provides a larger catch radius IMO.If our offense  ends up resembling last year's Rams offense, I think Sharpe is more suited for the Cooper Kupp role than Taylor. It's far from a guarantee but this is what I think will happen.

I don't know.  All I've heard is how much more complex LaFleur's offense is compared to Mularkey's.  Taylor's head may explode in the huddle!

Davis needs to make that catch.

He should've caught it, but it's an easy TD if Marcus leads him a bit more. He had some insane separation on Butler there.
