The Education of Marcus Mariota

nice article. mostly about the development as a rookie. didnt know he and jason michael were so close. that'd probably screw with my play having someone in there reminding me of checkdowns... i'd focus on that more than other options.

also... didnt we establish that this was no longer true?

"Mariota doesn’t have complete freedom to audible into any play in the playbook. Instead, Michael gives him a set of plays he can audible to, depending on how the defense looks pre-snap. If the safety is doing this, audible to that. Automatic."

pretty sure they stated that he has full audible abilities now.

Remember early last year when people were asking if the Titans QB coach was even teaching Mariota anything?

Well, there is the bit where Mariota organized a players only meeting to cover how the plays should be run, followed by the red lines on the game plan.  He definitely knows how to take control of the team.

I was going to make this same point. I think it's easy to overlook the contribution Michaels has made to Mariota's development. There's no question Whisenhunt was running the offense when he was here, but clearly Jason was more important than I thought. It's clear now why Mularkey kept him on.

There were definitely posts like that, but I think one of the biggest questions was around whether or not they were working on his footwork. There was actually evidence they weren't working on that (Mularkey said it was fine multiple times, IIRC).

This offseason, we know they've worked on it.

Am I the only one that doesn't think this article is a big deal? I would expect all high profile QB prospects to do the things mentioned in the article. Seems like a typical MMQB fluff piece to me.

I thought the article was slightly interesting in his routine, but yes its a puff piece.  The Ringer article almost read like a tongue-in-cheek piece made to make fun of Mariota for being a straight-arrow.  Cleaning up after everyone, etc...

This article isn't a big deal but it's better than anything that's recently come out about Mariota and the team.  But the exact same things in this article could be said about Winston, Wentz, Dak, Goff-already looking better in mcvay's system, Carr, any up and coming QB.
