He's 0-8 and has one good game with a bad finish and a solid game with two awful pics. He's flashed, enough that I thought he should be given this year, but don't act like it's being a dick to say he's come up short way more often than not...or that there is a single facet of his game where he is head and shoulders above MM, because he isn't. He's slightly better at manipulating the pocket and has a better arm that doesn't really even help him much with the deep ball because of his arc. He's shown little development over 8 games.

Saying he's come up short is fine. He has. But if you don't think people are dicks about this, just wait until after this game is over.

Now it just seems to me like a lame excuse to be dicks.

Maybe you should go re-read the Mettsiah posts from last year, and see if there is any irony in your accusation.

0-9 coming up!

But you'd take him over Romo and Newton, right?

First off, get off my nuts. Second, yes, I would over Romo. He's done and was since last year.

If Tennessee wins it's easily their best W of the year, esp with Houston eyeballing the division & playoffs.   The write ups this week are a lot of garbage, players get rusty sitting around (only one QB plays/develops).  Mett already does everything they're talking about. A checkdown has to be open for it to even matter to begin with.   It's gonna be a real tough game, especially not having a ground game.  Mariota would do no better.

Nah, just honest .  We've already seen how it goes vs competent Defensive units.  We saw the difference between the two in the same game less than a week ago , vs the same historic defensive mind . One moved the ball, the other was basically invisible.

It's completely ridiculous to say he's come up short.

Short?  Like 2.8 YPA short?  <43% completion short?  105 total yards through three quarters short?

This is a total shitshow.

Houston has abused the offensive line in these games and Mettenberger has taken the brunt of it.

Game one was the selfie game. He didn't survive game two. The tally in game three was fourteen hits, seven sacks and Whisenhunt's head. If round four is going to have a different result, the OL has to play better. Clearly. But I'll set that aside.

Mettenberger has to play better if the Titans want to win. I don't really buy that he's been held back by selfies and moustaches but perhaps his study habits are an issue and that's what is meant when he and the team discuss a more mature approach.

Some champion his deep passes but the reality is that these aren't necessarily the right decision. Wait too long for the deep pass and you may miss the underneath routes. You may also take an unnecessary hit. Or a sack. Especially with the protection the Titans offer.

Beyond that, interceptions like the deep one to Douglas are a problem and it's more than just having too much confidence in himself. Kuharsky wrote about Mettenberger seeing a fit versus a force and that's a big part of the problem. As Mularky said:

“The coverage should have taken him off of Harry immediately. That’s some of the things you should know pre-snap."

That Mettenberger couldn't read the defense (or didn't care) is as big a factor in his eight starts remaining winless as anything else. His arm talent allows him to throw daggers anywhere on the field. Not reading a defense too often places those daggers directly into the heart of the Titans.

It's time for Mettenberger to live up to the hype of being a premier backup. Football literacy is a prerequisite.

Hype? Hype? What hype?

Mett is a sixth round pick and is playing like one.

Need to get a real backup this off season.
