I'm not watching it intently, I'm flipping around a bit, but Freeman had a bunch of long runs behind Levitre, whose really playing well. It's pretty obvious now that he's a pure zone guard. Sometimes the scheme thing can be overplayed & usually if a guy can play he can play. But I think Levitre is an exception to the rule, he's very undersized & quick & he simply couldn't sustain blocks in our scheme. When he was with Buffalo to it was all zone under Gailey. Im personally a proponent of ZBS, it's just easier & you don't need the horses. Atlanta's OL has improved so much it's ridiculous. Schwenke was also thought to be a pure zone guy in college as well & most thought Lewan fit that best though he's a physical stud who can play in anything. That said, I'm fine with what Wiz did, he has his system & he obviously likes size on the line. The OL is run blocking pretty good & Poutasi is on his way to being a stud. However, I'll say this & most will disagree...if we kept Levitre & hired Kyle Shanahan as OC I think Sankey will be doing what Freeman is right now.... The Sankey pick is a great example of the GM not understanding what the HC is trying to do. It's pretty clear Whiz wants to use a RBBC. This was obvious before he came here (just look at his past). You don't spend a 2nd round pick on a RB for this type of offense, and you especially don't pick the first RB in a draft that is deep at RB. You use that 2nd round pick to fill a position more important to the offense or defense and use the 3-5 rounders on your RBBC guys. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

In the first Atlanta game he was absolutely destroyed and thrown around like a rag doll. Thanks for the compliment sir, it certainly means a lot as you're one of my top guys as well. No question about Freeman. His college #'s were meh behind a stacked FSU OL & his combine numbers weren't really close to Sankey's. Sankey really blew him away as a prospect. He had a few 20-25 yard runs, like his TD, where the holes were just gaping. There was also a longer run in the first half, it may have been a counter, he had about a yard of space to each side of him. Also, their FB, DiMarco, just kills folks. I know Superhorn gets some flak over his support of Jake Locker but he had a great article on Sankey's carries last year. Basically, he was very successful in the zone, spread runs & bad in the power runs. It makes you wonder, should we have went with more of a spread, zone blocking approach this year rather than a power approach? Especially being that it would suit Mariota so well?
