JDot
Marcus is a rhythm passer. Only going long every now and then just does not work. It is similar to Brady.
9 Nines
This just in: Marcus Mariota was 1-of-7 with an interception passing 10+ yards downfield Sunday. Since going 5-of-5 on such passes in his debut, Mariota has completed 41.9% attempts thrown 10+ yards downfield. Well, like we noticed he def struggled with it today. But I feel like gameplan was part of it. There was a lot of dinking today. It will be fun to see how Mariota does in shoot-outs.
big2033
It will be fun to see how Mariota does in shoot-outs. You mean in a 35-33 game versus the Colts? Or would you rather score in the 40s?
9 Nines
Something I noticed about Mariota. He is fairly polished on those quick plays (likely practiced over and over to death) but on longer developing plays, he seems lost. I suspect the coaches get real nervous as those plays are unfolding. And I do not think it a problems with seeing things - he did make some play and line adjustments based on reads (a big play from one.) Instead it might be he does not function well on longer developing play. He strikes me as someone mentally hyper/impatient and one track minded becoming indecisive (starts worry about bad results, gunshy, whatever you want to call it) on those longer developing plays. If I am right, he will likely never over-come that and will be a big choker if he even ever really develops.

9 Nines
You mean in a 35-33 game versus the Colts? Or would you rather score in the 40s? He did nothing special against that bad defense (giving up almost 300 yards in the air) and it was loss.
big2033
He did nothing special against that bad defense (giving up almost 300 yards in the air) and it was loss. You asked about a shootout. He passed for 367 yards with 2 TDs. What's a shootout to you?
9 Nines
For Mariota to have a long game, it will take a strong running game and open receivers on play action passes. He wont consistently do it outside of that, and if the Titans can develop such an offense, Mariota probably would be a okay QB and if the Titans can do that, and Mariota starts running a fair amount, he can possibly be a good effective QB. But even without running much, he seems to be gimping up, so perhaps his build (pretty lean) can't handle any running besides what QBs do a time or two in a game. 9 Nines
You asked about a shootout. He passed for 367 yards with 2 TDs. What's a shootout to you? It was against an defense giving up almost 300 yards a game and the end result was a loss. Isn't the goal to win? That was the knock against Mettenberger people kept claiming as they held on to a win against the Bucs, last year's worst team in the league, after the Titans spent most of the time for 3 straight months preparing for the one game. Titans279
Mariota vs. Mett, Round 5320!Almost as great as the other thousands of times we've gone over it all!

You were talking about a shootout not wins and losses. A shootout is two teams scoring a lot of points and getting a ton of yards. It will be fun to see how Mariota does in shoot-outs. That's all you said. Do you remember your original point here?
big2033
Shoot outs don't begin with lots of punts exchanged, and dueling multi interception performances. Sure they do.

Pragidealist
He doesn't step into his throws. He didn't do this at Oregon. We knew this, but we have to live with it. This. He can do it. He just doesn't do it often enough. He had a few.. one I can think of to Hunter where he drove it well. I think it came not long after the one he under threw to Wright that would have been a TD (wright should still have caught it). I don't think its an arm strength problem. Its a combination of bad habits and not being used to the NFL speed. My bet is that he adjusts. We'll see. I think he's thrown maybe one pass a game where its been obvious and this one was no exception. HE was 1 for 6 over 20 yards. 1 was a badly lobbed ball, one was the pick. I think the others were fine in terms of velocity... just no space or the wr didn't make a play on it.
