big2033
Now that we've helped the defense with two LBs, how much value does Leonard Williams have in LeBeau's defense? I understand him being a good sized 3-4 end makes him a good fit. But with Williams would we be buying a whole pig to make a ham sandwich (I really struggled to find a good analogy for this). If someone can paint a better picture that would be helpful. EDIT: If he's not the next JJ Watt (an anomaly for a 3-4 end) then how much value will he have in this defense and at No. 2 overall? volntitan
I would be extremely happy if we pick Williams, but starting to lean towards hoping we find a willing trade partner and drop down and take one of the 2 WR.
ctm
Still think Williams is the 3rd option if QB and trade down are ruled out.
headhunter
Williams can command double teams and is dominant against the pass and run. He reads and reacts well and is a pocket pusher. He's an ideal 3-4 end
Starkiller
I think people are way overstating that this is LeBeau's D. It isn't. It's still Horton's D.
NoD
I think people are way overstating that this is LeBeau's D. It isn't. It's still Horton's D. Don't agree. LeBeau is the head mofo in charge I think.

Jonboy
I think people are way overstating that this is LeBeau's D. It isn't. It's still Horton's D. Ehhhh....I don't know about that. Whiz said it will be LeBeau's defense and that Horton will assist him in implementing it. When asked who would call plays, Whiz said it would be up to LeBeau. He's clearly the one in charge of the defense this year.
volntitan
I like williams alot, but Coselle's assessment of him does worry me a bit.

Fat Brutus
Williams is the prototype 34 end. We run a 34. I am sure he could move around and be disruptive, like Watt is in Houston.
tgo
Horton and LeBeau run the exact same base defense anyway. The only differences are the sub packages. I'm sure they will implement some of Horton's exotic packages in with LeBeau's subpackage stuff. I'd venture to guess that the coverages will be mostly LeBeau's with some Horton variation sprinkled in at times. Either way, the differences are pretty subtle. Overall, It's LeBeau's defense and that's pretty well documented.
Guest
Williams can be a stud DE in the 3-4 but probably has more value as a 3T in the 4-3. I still think he's worth taking at #2.

That's my issue. To draft a player No. 2 overall I think they have to be an impact player. Will Williams be the anchor of this defense or just another guy in this position? I actually disagree here. He's not quick-twitch enough to be an amazing 3 tech imo, although he could be very good. I think he's an absolutely perfect fit as a 3-4 end.
