Nick Foles & More Picks or Leo Williams?

So has Mett proven enough to be handed the keys to the kingdom? Getting Foles is sure better than the other alternative and that is we use our #2 pick on a QB.

Nope. If the Titans want Foles to start fine. But just name the starter in July before camp.

Ya.

By the way the Texans are going to have a QB competition to see who the starting QB in 2015 will be. Why? Because they don't have a cut and dried guy to step into that position. Now that also means O'Brien will also go out and get another QB to bring into the competition. It could be someone they get in a trade or someone they draft.

IMO that is exactly what we should be doing. I don't even like having Whitehurst around taking up space.

If you're using the Texans as your example of how to run your QB position, there's something fundamentally wrong with your argument.

By the way I was the first and only person on this board to mention trading with the Eagles and getting Cox and Foles as possible parts of the trade. I have been kicked in the nuts over that and basically told to shut the F up.

How strange would it be if the Titans made a deal for exactly what I proposed. I really do think it is possible. And I think Foles might be more of an incentive that people think for the Titans to make the deal. Plus it keeps Foles away from the Texans who probably would love to have him in their stable.

Not true, I've been screaming from the hilltops to do a trade like this for awhile. The problem is GM's are obsessed with draft picks & the "trade chart". No team would do the deal unless they get a billion picks. NFL GM's are not a creative bunch.

Let's say the deal was Foles/Cox & a 2016 1st from Philly for a switch of picks. Think about that for a second, we're basically getting, even excluding Foles, a probowl DT & 2 1st rounders for Leonard Williams. If the Texans offered JJ Watt for that the Eagles wouldn't consider it. I guarantee, 2 years from now, Fletcher Cox plus the 2 1sts & Foles will blow away Williams in terms of value.

I like Williams but this guy isn't a once in a generation player, this isn't LT or Reggie White, he's not a freakish athlete. In fact, there's an good chance he isn't as good as Cox.

I don't think Williams is a once in a generation player either but for curiosity's sake what would you have to see from a player to think he is one? What attributes would you like to see in such a prospect that Williams lacks?

I agree the biggest impediment to a deal like this is not that we wouldn't get fair value, it is that people would argue we didn't get "fair" value.  Whatever that means.  Add to that Webster's bad moves in the past and nothing short of an unrealistic king's ransom in this trade would keep folks from saying he got "fleeced."

When the reality is this deal could potentially make a lot of sense even if the stupid "draft pick value" charts argue otherwise.  Esp once players are involved, you throw that stuff out the window.

40 TDs in 16 games begs to differ, WhizBerger.

And yes, I understand some of that comes from the no huddle, spread offense, but those numbers are insane. The guy is a legitimate QB, and we would be lucky to have him on the team to bolster the position. I do agree that naming automatic starter isn't the way I would handle it, but it would be a great competition to watch and would likely push both to be better.

Isn't happening, though, so meh.

I was trying to pick a team that was in the same quandary as the Titans.

I guess the way the Colts did things is the best. There, I'll us that example. Lose every game in a year the best QB prospect in decades comes out. Satisfied?

And by the way IMO Obrien hasn't hit on a QB yet but my point was he is going to keep kicking the tires until he does. He will draft guys like Savage, bring in guys like Mallet and keep on until something happens. What else is there to do?

Wasn't debating the methodology, just the example you used. However, if you're using the Texans as a comparison to the Titans, I'd agree.

I'm not sure that there's a fool-proof method of drafting a QB, as every single one relies upon luck in some forms or fashion.

I have no interest in Nick Foles. He is JAG if you ask me.

Mettenberger has way more upside than Foles.

No way this job is being given to Mett after shaky performance last year. He will have to compete with a vet or one of the top QB prospects. Who would you rather they bring in other that Foles?

Foles is the best competition for Mett. His contract wouldn't dictate he's the automatic starter (Cutler), nor would his draft slot (Mariota, Winston), yet he has legit talent and could be a possible answer at the position. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem if he somehow ended up on the team. He's a perfect for for our situation.
