Mettenberger Stat Analysis

And they did so on better teams. Though their lines weren't good, they were better than Tennessee's line.

Nobody has seen as much of Teddy as I have, Teddy isn't even in Mett's galaxy. Minnesota would've won two or three more games with Mett than they did with Teddy. Carr isn't as good as Mett either.

Again....the line ain't got too much to do with this as its been shown he throws a nice long ball. So the line just collapses when its a intermediate throw? Its his weakness...some have said it was a college weakness. Can it improve, of course. Do whiz and Webster bet there careers on a qb who wasn't able to convert third downs or throw an accurate intermediate pass? Well see. I'd like to see cbjs stats in the same scenario for the last few games. See if any difference..

Of course nobody is saying that Mettenberger cannot improve or that he's dramatically worse than Carr or Bridgewater long term.  After one year, Rick Mirer had better numbers than Drew Bledsoe.

That said, this data shows what the film did - he can stand to improve dramatically if he wants to be a legit answer.

If he's having to move while making the throw, or he's having to throw before the ball should come out, or he gets the ball to them reasonably well and they drop it, things such as these bring numbers down.

He's an excellent passer, a highly accurate passer at all levels. Fix the team, the problem fixes itself. The right QB is already in place.

As far as the line collapsing. All of the time, on nearly every throw and regardless of the distance the ball was thrown.

Best third down % in college belonged to Mett and Teddy. Except, Mett's passes made it to the sticks.

None of them would've played as well as he did in Tennessee in '14. Plenty of legitimate established NFL starters wouldn't have either. I'm talking about some guys with rings too.

I dno...if I'm reading these stats correctly...cbj with the same line and wrs was much much much better on third downs

520 no - that 6% number was the 1st down conversion rate when it was 3rd and >10 yards.  In comparison, CBJ had 5 conversions on 21 attempts in that area - 23.8% success which is the same rate at which Mett's overall 3rd down conversion success rate was.

Ideally, you want to be in that 45-50% success rate, assuming that shorter distances will have a higher success rate.  The oddity about Mett's numbers is that his best success rate was 3rd and 7-9 as opposed to 3rd and 1-6.

Thanks. All these numbers confuse me lol

I'll give @ credit....all the other Mettsiah Crazies have avoided this thread like Alabama fans are avoiding Facebook today.

I do believe this was the first mett thread not at 6 pages within hours. Probably would of been buried if I didn't call it out on page one

B.S. Put a decent line in front of him, watch all the numbers come up. This isn't difficult to figure out.

These issues are consistent with his college tape.. Where he had a great oline and weapons around him

Name a decent one.

give him an o-line and watch him improve...give him better receivers and watch him improve...give him a defense that limits the other team to 0 point and watch him start winning games..give him wings and a halo and watch him go straight to heaven.

I don't remember him having issues with intermediate throws, and I don't even remember that being brought up as an issue with him by anyone else.

He's always been a down field passer. And has long struggled on short timing routes. Most short passes/screens he did were to OBJ who would then make a play

While these numbers may be interesting, there's not enough data to mean anything. Statistically you need at least 100 data points before you can start drawing any relevant conclusions. They make for good message board fodder, but not much else.

Long struggled, funny. After Mett passed him the ball. Important little tidbit you overlooked there.

Lol stop getting so offended any time someone doesn't praise Mett or alludes to the fact he may have flaws. You act like I said he can't throw
