Who else out there is a better option than Mett?

If this guy actually pans out we just struck gold with a 6th round pick

Winston is a better QB than Mett. You can hate him for his off the field stuff, but talent for talent, he's got more of it than Mett. Most notably, he can actually sense pressure and has an internal clock in his head to not take sacks like Mett does.

Now, I don't think we take Winston at 2. And when Webster and Whiz are cleaning out their offices in Jan 2016 because they were fired, you can point to the fact that they went with Mett as the main reason why they were fired. Taking a QB in the first buys them an extra year, IMO. Now, half of me wants them to pass on Winson just bc I think there it is more likely they're fired. Whiz is a bad head coach. There aren't words to describe how much I hate that prick.

Teams keep trying to find the next Tom Brady are simply going to coninue to be disappointed. Tom Brady is a once in a lifetime player. He's like a unicorn.

Another issue I have with Whiz is the fact that he thinks he's smarter than everyone else. He's not. Whiz has to have a great QB to run his offense. Look at where he's been most successful. He's had Kurt Warner, Big Ben, and P. Rivers. Mett doesn't come close to any of those QBs. If he did, he wouldn't have lasted until the 6th round. At the end if the day, you are what your record says you are and Whiz, in his last 4 years, is 20-44 aka AWFUL.

TL;DR version - Winston is better than Mett. Whiz will likely roll with Mett. Whiz is terrible and a prick. I hate him. Will be fired after 2015. We're basically the new Raiders.

There is definitely misrepresentation going on. Guys like @ are taking the opinions of very few posters and touting them as the consensus opinion of the board. It sure is easy to tear down a strawman you built up isn't it?

It might be misrepresentation to say the whole board feels that way. But its a correct representation of how new people who think differently are treated automatically, be it by one member, two, the board, whatever evidenced by how @ simply stated mett was average and the very next post is someone asking for a ban. I can link if needed

It doesn't matter. Tampa Bay will fall in love with WInston come predraft hype. It happens every year. I really believe MM will fall in the draft.

Ya I can definitely see that happening ..honestly I was about to start a draft bold prediction thread saying mariota will fall out of top ten

There is no larger straw man on this board right now, than those proclaiming themselves as undecided on Mett.

In what what is people saying "I think he's our guy but I'm not 100% sure" a strawman? He literally has shown promise and how much promise he's shown depends on what you look for in a QB. He didn't show future MVP potential but he also didn't show he sucks ass. Therefore the answer lies somewhere in between. The problem is that each side is so extreme in their thinking that there is A LOT of middle ground in between. I would say I'm more sold than most but I'm still not 100% percent convinced, I'm more like 75-85% percent convinced and I suspect many are somewhere around there. Hmmm, this gives me a thread idea.

It's because most claiming that they are not 100% sure, spend 100% of their posts defending the guy.

Good idea for a new thread.  God knows we need another Mett thread.

Whitehurst was not brought in to be the backup plan. He was brought in to be the backup, period...and he's performed pretty well in that role. Mett was always the backup plan if Locker didn't pan out.

But to your point...yes, the season will rest largely on Mett planning out, though I'd argue it rests just as much on getting the defense fixed. However, what they're really looking for is the long term answer at QB, not just a stop gap to get through next season. Bringing in a vet who's no more the long term answer than Whitehurst doesn't solve anything.

Whitehurst was given a legit chance once they'd moved on from Locker which was Whis's plan from the beginning. He failed. Someone else will be waiting in the wings to get a chance next year if the starter fails whether that's someone behind Mett or Mett behind someone else remains to be seen.

The only way they don't have that situation is if they draft one in the first. That type of investment will take more than a season and no one else will get a legit shot until that player is done. Personally, I think a 1st round QB is unlikely but possible.

You have to know this is not true. Whitehurst was never declared to be the permanent starting QB. He was filling in until they made the official decision to move on from Locker. At that point they came out and said Mett was the starter going forward. They never made a similar statement about Whitehurst.

For that matter Whitehurst played pretty good in the games leading up to declaring Mett the starter. He posted QB ratings of 123.9, 87.3 and 91.8...throwing 4 TDs to only 1 pick. Frankly the idea that he "failed" is pretty laughable. He was never an option as the permanent starter.
