"Charlie Throws With Anticipation"

The problem with Jake is that "anticipation" is one of a myriad of issues he has. Obviously anticipation means "throwing guys open" or throwing it before a receiver comes out of his break. A lot of this is natural, it seems to be sort of 2nd nature to Mettenberger for example, but guys clearly do improve in this area. McNair, as mentioned by Nash, was more of a guy that threw to guys after they were open & there's alot of routes that don't really require "anticipation".

The difference with McNair & Jake though is that McNair had simply amazing pocket awareness, an incredible feel for the pass rush, He was one of the best I've ever seen at avoiding rushers at the last second, it was like he had eyes in the back of his head. He was so decisive in the pocket & took off running at the perfect time, unlike Jake who gets confused & hesitates. Jake's lack of awareness & natural instincts really takes away from his speed & athleticism, when the guy takes off his burst is awesome but he rarely gets a good takeoff, he's always hesitant. He's also not nearly the thrower on the run he was said to be coming out of school. He's a decent passer on the run but he was supposed to be great at this, Cutler-esque if I remember correctly.

The bottom line is Jake simply doesn't do enough things well, period.

The other thing about this interview with Kendall is last year we heard very very similar comments from Walker about Fitzpatrick, then later in the year Walker admitted going to your No.2 QB at any point is a serious blow to your season.

However the one encouraging difference from last year to this year is the system. We wont be trying to replace Jake with CBJ how we tried doing with Fitzpatrick, we'll be fitting an opening with a fitting piece. CBJ is better suited to run Whiz's system. The guy stands tall in the pocket and fires darts how QB's are suppose to.

I'll be happy if he can just hit a receiver in stride on a crossing route or place one without the receiver having to jump for it (if they can even jump that high) on deeper options.

Jake's crossing routes are especially pitiful. I can't tell you how many times I've seen him throw an 8 yard crossing route 5-6 yards behind the receiver. The pass to Delanie in the endzone against Dallas that Jas started the thread about is the perfect example of this. I feel like almost half of his crossers are well behind the receiver. The only throw he consistently nails is the out, which he does throw awesome.

"anticipation" is one of the most mythicized qualities of a QB. When a QB throws w/ "anticipation" it generally means

1) He knows the offense very well

2) He has read the defense and trusts his reads.

Locker has struggled w/ both of these. it's no surprise that Whitehurst would be better at it.

One major Jake flaw exposed! What's next? Pocket presence? Accuracy? Brittleness? Who will say it, and how will they word it? Place your bets now!

Ridiculous. Next thing you know someone is going to accuse him of being injury prone.

Apparently Locker thought he was supposed to throw back shoulder on the crossing routes.

Whitehurst knows Whisenhunts offense. Jake has only played about one full season, he is still a rookie. Once he learns the offense, he will be able to begin the development of throwing with anticipation, etc.

I used to think that way, but the problem is that there isn't time for him to learn. Winning is the prime directive and really, I don't think the team can wait for Jake to learn what he has to learn.  The fact that the problem was voiced tells me that everyone is aware that there is a problem.  And I have wondered for a while now if Jake subconsciously gets hurt so that he won't have to face his failures.  That is a common reaction in many people who are pressed to perform and cannot. jmo

Today, Kendall Wright was asked if there was a difference in the way Locker/Whitehurst throw the ball and if there is an adjustment in getting used to a different QB.

His answer:

"Charlie throws a lot off of anticipation so us as receivers, we've gotta get our head around fast in our routes because they're different quarterbacks in that way. With Charlie, the ball will be gone before you get out of your break so you just gotta get your head around, get your eyes on it and make the play."

HAH. Surprised none of the reporters mentioned this anywhere today. Nothing on the radio or anything either.

When/where did he say it?

He does not stand tall in the pocket and fire darts. He is not suited to run any offense.

I do not want Jake to start another game he is not capable of being a starting QB in the NFL.

But some of you are so desperate to get jake out that your excited to see any shit show that doesn't involve Jake.

Whitehurst is a horrible QB he is not going to show Jake up. You can't win in the NFL with Whitehurst under center. Only Titans fan would be excited to see Charlie fucking Whitehurst at QB.

I say put Mett in now and never look back by time the season ends you'll be able to fully evaluate him. We already know what we have in JAke and Charlie.

And I really believe Mett can succeed in the NFL. Jake and Charlie both have shown they cannot.
