Great WR class

I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't be too upset if we took one of this year's wide receiver crop. I'm sure you all are thinking QB or DL but Evans, Lee, Watkins, Benjamin, and Mathews all look pretty damn good.

I say if we miss out on our preferred QB or DL, we should trade down, get a couple extra picks, and take one of these guys.

Imagine one of these guys on the outside with Nate/Hunter and Wright doing his Wes Welker role in the Slot.

We are on the verge of having one of the better receiving crews in the league.I think if we could get a really good receiver here we would have Wright,Hunter and the new receiver which would be perfect especially if we drafted a new QB this year.

What happens with Watkins will be fascinating to watch. He could go as early as 2 or even fall to our pick. If he did fall, I think it would be hard for us to pass. At the very least, we should get a nice trade down out of it.

We actually really could use a legit #1 type guy to go with Hunter and Wright and I've said numerous times our base set should include 3 WRs anyway. Even Fitzpatrick could move the ball with three real good guys out there, a gelled OL and a RB who doesn't go fetal on most of his runs. We already have a quality TE for that alignment in Walker who can block and catch. I'm tired of this bi-polar offense spread one play and TES and FB the next. One good back, one versatile TE and three quality WRs with Wright playing in the slot and that is hard to stop IMO even with an average QB if the OL is stable. If you have Hunter and a guy like Watkins on the outside there is no way the defense can defend the whole field wide and deep. You just need a smart accurate passer who doesn't have to be super man.

This is pretty much what I was thinking. If you pick a guy like Watkins or Evans for example, you can really have a good 3 WR set with Wright in the slot. Obviously there's no replacing a great QB but we don't have one & we won't have one next year either. If we load up on weapons & the 2nd year OL guys improve, we'll be pretty stacked. Locker & Fitz should be able to put points up with this. This can also be insurance for Hunter if he doesn't pan out, which I don't think will be the case, but you never know. I also think Preston has a chance to be good, hopefully the new staff will give him a shot.

Also Sox, I agree about the formations. I think we should just alternate mostly between a 3 wide & 2 TE, just a quick substitution. That's basically all the Colts did for years.

I'd be alright w/ it but I have a hard time seeing it happen.

Agree 100% Sox. Niners are a perfect example, their offense is night & day without Crabtree. Even more glaring, look at the Titans difference on O in 2010 with & without Britt. I know some think they're overrated, but a dominant WR is as important as any position outside of QB

Not as big on Benjamin as the consensus.

Very Raw.

He is. He could have really benefited from coming back, and I wanted him to, but he's going to be 23 soon and has a family to take care of. I met Kelvin 3 years ago when he was still a recruit actually. He was in Tallahassee on a visit for the Florida game. Very cool guy. Happy to see him have the success he's had and will be rooting for him to do well wherever he goes.
