NashvilleNinja
Two things from this: take anything Wyatt says with a grain of salt and assume nothing from the fact that CJ and his agent are here.

abenjami
“@adbrandt: Johnson wants "credit" for being such a bargain for 3 yrs...” Ok sure. Then here's the deal. We'll pay you $50M guaranteed. But if you get hurt or your performance isn't on par with the top play makers, then you have to repay it during those years. Guest
Both valid points Actually CJ's point isn't valid at all. He's about to be paid more than any NFL RB in history.
Jamalisms
Actually CJ's point isn't valid at all. He's about to be paid more than any NFL RB in history. I don’t think what you said has any direct relationship to Chris Johnson’s point. If Chris Johnson is paid more than any other RB, it is because both parties agree that such an amount is fair. It will have nothing to do with whether or not he outplayed his former contract. When agreed to by both parties, new contract negotiations result in a salary which approximates both what the team expects to get in return for a player and what the player feels he should be paid (a fair wage). The player will then outperform or underperform the contract, resulting in the standard practice of being cut, holding out, or renegotiations. In this case, Chris Johnson has clearly outplayed his contract. There is a fair salary number out there which would be agreed to by both parties. As part of the negotiations, the Titans are attempting to get a discount for early renegotiation. This is a legitimate point in that he is still under contract for two years – the Titans are under no legal obligation to renegotiate. The point is off-set, however, by Chris Johnson’s argument that they have had a good bargain for three years. By agreeing to an early discount, he would be agreeing to be underpaid again which is the precise situation which has brought them back to the bargaining table. Both sides have stated valid considerations, I just don’t think it signifies anything other than the point and counter-point nature of negotiations. cenj
So...does that mean we can reduce a player's salary anytime they are playing below the contract? I'm looking at you Hope.

Sure, I could easily see Hope and/or Gage cut at the end of camp or see them take a paycut
