I'm freaking encouraged

I mean, this is the NFL and moral victories don't sell playoff tickets, but this team is on the right track.

Just gotta learn how to seize the moment but I saw a lot of things to like.

1. Our defense is a real thing.  Even the plays Nuke made in OT over J-Mac were well-covered plays, as was the Johnson reversed catch.

2. Jake has some stones, even if his accuracy can cost us.  People forget that today was his 13th start in the NFL.

3. Chance got baptized in the first half by Watt, but JJ wasn't much of a factor in the second half.  He'll learn and grow from this.

Shame that we couldn't close it out, but to play them head up at their home opener in a "house money" game.....shows me that this team has hunger.

Let's get down on the East Bank Sunday and FINALLY send Philip Rivers home a loser!

This one definitely stings, and it probably will until our next win (which hopefully comes next Sunday, we owe the Chargers one), but I personally couldn't be happier with the direction the team is headed.

It's been said enough today but they really do need to trust Locker and open it up for him. He showed what he can do today when they let him sling it. If he betrays their trust and plays horrible then the writing is on the wall and it's time to bite the bullet and move on.

It just feels good to know this team is no longer a push over week in and week out. And it's refreshing to get a taste of that physical style of play that we all grew to love from the Titans over the years that has been non existent for the past 4-5 seasons.

Yeah, it hurts to lose like that, but it's WAY better than the blowout losses we saw last year, and the ridiculous amount of points we gave up. When you lose an OT game, the opponents will likely have 24 points or more. So I'm not overly worried about the 30 points, considering how good the Texans are on offense. Our defense looked quite good out there, IMO. The offense should improve. They have a lot of new guys along the interior OL, and the TEs are assuming new roles in some ways. Locker hasn't even played a full season yet. I wish they would let him play a bit more, but that 99 yard drive was a thing of beauty. Definitely moving in the right direction, and I like it. I don't think this is our year to make the playoffs, much less go deep, but I didn't think that before the season either. What I do think is that our window is starting to open a bit. I hope we can continue to improve and that Locker can be the guy. The rest of the team looks good enough. We just need a QB that can win us some games and elevate the team a bit more.

I agree. Lots of good stuff out of that game. People just get too caught up in the game when it's close and then hurt (and thus pissed off) when they can't close it out.

1) The defense is or will be legit

2) The running game is improved and CJ is running hard

3) Locker can do it if he's given time (protection) and opportunity (play calling).

These are the types of games that kill your playoff chances. I'm not encouraged, I'm pissed off. The coaching staff sans Williams is a huge issue. If they continue with these absurd gameplans we'll have no idea whether Locker can be a franchise QB at year's end.

I'm literally right in between these two posts. Reo is right...but Oldschool is spot on in that these are the types of losses that have you on the outside looking in when the playoffs roll around.

Yeah... losing to the Texans on their field on their home opener is the type of loss that makes people miss the playoffs... Sure it is.

I mean mathematically speaking, It could end up being a loss that ends our playoff hopes but really so could any loss. Realistically though if we're shooting for a wild card then we should've lost this game anyway. If we had won it then we're shooting for the division, not a wild card spot.

If you want a game that could be a deciding factor for us in terms of the playoffs, keep an eye on week 17 when they come to Nashville. You think this team will be ready for that one? I do. If anything, a loss like this will fire this team up. We've got a good shot at being 3-1 at the close of the first quarter of this season. That's pretty damn good imo.

What are you smoking? There are no moral victories in the NFL. Good chance at being 3-1? How do you figure that. The Chiefs and Chargers look as good if not better than the Titans.

The Titans play the Chargers and the Jets the next two weeks.

3-1 is the BEST scenario (SD and KC look a lot better than everyone thought) and then you still have Seattle, San Francisco, and Denver on the schedule. Plus the Colts x2 and the Texans to close out the year.

It also isn't necessarily true that any loss could end our playoff hopes given the way the tiebreakers shake out. Losses to division opponents are the worst, followed by conference losses. Out of conference losses hurt the least. I'd rather have a win in Houston over a win in Seattle or against San Francisco.

The two games against the Colts are the key games.  And BTW, they lost starting LG Donald Thomas for the season yesterday.

Titans beat the Steelers, Colts must travel to Bengals in corresponding game.  Colts lost to Miami, Titans get Jets.

We play NYJ @ home week 4, not KC. Coming off this loss and w/ SD traveling across country and it being our home opener, we should have a very good chance of beating SD and the Jets are the Jets. We should win that... we might not but we should.

And yeah, 3-1 in the 1st quarter is pretty important considering our 2nd quarter games. I'll be happy w/ 2-2 through that.

Any game can cost you the playoffs. Sure, out of conference games hurt the least but they can still cost you the playoffs. Doesn't matter if you've got the tiebreakers against another team if you've lost one more than them due to an out of conference loss. Any game can cost you the playoffs.
