Merc, I remember a time when you were owned to the point of announcing that you were leaving the board. You obviously came back. Now imagine that you're a new poster and not as invested. You wouldn't have come back. Give feedback but give them time to grow. That should go for all new people that don't fall into the asshat category. True, the unconditional homers will probably never fit in here. That's the beauty of a mostly unmoderated place. Something that is rare nowadays. We want there to be more fans like us. We just have to give people a chance to see the light. Some people here have gotten away from intelligent football discussion and replaced it with personal attacks. Intelligent criticism of the team is needed. However, being negative does not equal intelligent conversation. When this place talks football and the debates get heated over football this place is the best there is. This thing has turned into less of a post about you now and more of a State of the Union. Point being, people need to focus more on staying on topic. If they disagree with someone, call them a f'ing idiot...fine. Just tell them why. Try not to blast new board members unless they really have it coming to them. Those are just my suggestions and that's it. They're suggestions and not some law I'm laying down. Um, Guru - you and Jamal are pretty much the ones that turned this thread into a vehicle for personal attacks. I posted Jason Hall and Sharona articles coming soon? Ok... Which is hardly, and I mean quite hardly, any kind of open barrage on anyone. I could've gone into it more (which I did as I felt prodded into by your/Jamal's response) but I could still say a Hell of a lot more. The point is, I posted that, and both you and Jamal hit with the generic retort of "write something or stfu or you don't have to read it" type response that neither of you are foolish enough to believe won't lead to more heated responses. I get toting the company line, standing by the site's efforts, and wanting to welcome new members here. That being said, the quickest and more surefire way to get people to fucking hate something is to tell people they're going to love it and to overly jump at its defense the first time it's questioned. You enjoy Sharona's input? Great. Maybe a lot of people here will. I made the mistake of following her on Twitter for all of half an hour and reading two of her posts at MCM before realizing how big of a mistake that was. Maybe a lot of people here want to know that so they don't waste their time or at least have a sense of knowing what they're walking into when they click something with her name on it. I could have done a LOT worse regarding my opinion on this, but don't sit here and act like your zealous defense of this stems from anything other than Jason having some radio connections and Sharona having breasts, thus a horny fanboy following. If outright saying or implying as such is "too much for them to take"...this is completely the wrong website for them and you even arguing otherwise is beyond fucking hypocritical. If they weren't introduced from the site via the admin and podcast there would zero effort in sticking up for either of them. Maybe they deserve a higher standard as a result, but under the same token, we should expect more from both of them as a result. Everyone else here seems to be perfectly fine with learning to sink or swim, yet they should be immune to it? Again, I'm going to reiterate that every time you tell a contingent of people not to bash something - it's inevitably going to happen and far likely worse than what would have happened in the first place. I made a squiggly smiley face in regards to two posters. Heaven forbid! Totally crass and uncalled for! Let's make it worse by jumping on the sword...then blame Mercalius for his (honest) opinion that is in no way unique to just himself. I just said what multiple other posters were thinking. Also, if this is considered going off or setting you off, then I don't know what to say: Don't read them if you don't want to. Sharona volunteered and I said "Why not?" She's built up a bit of a following and seems like a genuine person. Anyone is welcome to post an article as long as I don't have to spend thirty minutes editing grammar so feel free to write one of you think you can do better. I obviously offended you and Jamal with my opinion, though apparently Jamal much more so, and you've both made condescending remarks that anyone with a brain knows will get a response out of me. The easiest course here is honestly just to let me have my opinion on them and leave it at that instead of overly jumping at their defense. I'm not going to continue to shit-talk or insult when there's nothing to respond to. Figured that would be pretty easy to comprehend, but whatever floats your boat. Think about what you've expressed (ugh, those people are going to post?) and what I've expressed (if you don't like it, fine, but why attack people?). Then, in all seriousness, chill and take your own advice. This is actually much the point and it always amazes how high a percent of people take turns needing to do it, myself included. Guru is being tactful but he's essentially saying that unabated negativity for the sake of negativity is standing in the way of what he wants to do with the website... not even on all posts but towards original content and new individuals specifically. As someone who has in the past expressed an opinion that jerks need to go, (CTF in your complaint), and as someone who enjoys Guru's work it would seem a small and understandable appeal to your better nature... even if your comments aren't as negative as those you objected to. Two final points... It was late and I was tired, but I did think that you would take something to heart and not retort... and a single piece of original content can drive tens of thousands of hits by itself, (and that was some of my early "articles"), which says nothing about the potential for return visits or new forum lurkers/members. The forum by itself grows slowly... so, yes, original content plays a huge role and there is a reason endeavors are being made in that area. ... and I also think that the fact that he's expressing an opinion about it over the past few weeks, when he's never done it before, should say something about something if you stop and consider it. ... and all of that is even beyond the fact that not all content need be opinion and editorial and breaking new ground. Descriptive and summative is actually good content. There's just so much of this that really feels like it should go without saying of you took a step back and considered what is being said.
