Granted, there's going to be questions as to why he slipped down about 10 spots, and why the Caps were willing to part ways with him, but on paper this move has a lot of potential. He was minus 11 and was responsible for a couple of goals by letting a winger skate past him on the edge and straight to the goal. No big loss there. Guest Posted April 3, 2013 Report Share Posted April 3, 2013 The leafs drafted 5th overall last year and among the fan base and media forsberg was talked about a lot here. I saw some mocks that had him going at 2 overall. The caps are just desperate. The whole regimes ass is on the line even ovechkin who has been a shell of his former self. Their window is probably already closed and this is a last ditch effort. I would be massively pissed if I was a caps fan and I still can't believe they didn't get more for him. I would also be remiss if I didn't mention how much money the preds saved today and with playoff gates maybe not happening this year moving 2 vet salaries for futures makes them very happy purely from an economic standpoint. Mercalius Posted April 4, 2013 Author Report Share Posted April 4, 2013 I've been doing a lot of reading up on Forsberg today, and the only negatives I can really see are some slight knocks on his footspeed and the internal-hope of Caps fans that they wouldn't have traded him unless they had reason (maybe not living up to potential or taking too long to develop when they need help now). There's a chance he doesn't play up to what he's projected to be, but everything I've read says his floor is very likely to be what we gave away in Erat with a ceiling to be a game-changer at league level. I'll miss Erat, no doubt, but taking emotional farewells out of it - we've shipped out an aging, fairly expensive player that can be replaced, and picked up someone who could finally give us the dynamic element we've been lacking so long. It may take another year, or two, for him to be NHL ready, but no doubt, he's the highest upside prospect we've had in a long time. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Fisher questioned Erat's dedication in a Tennessean article today. Fisher is one guy who I've never questioned his heart , desire or motivation so I take his opinion seriously. No1TitansFan Posted April 6, 2013 Report Share Posted April 6, 2013 Preds fans need to be patient when it comes to Forsberg; he could opt to play one more year in Sweden, he doesn't have the largest of frames so it will probably take 1-2 years over here in NA to become acclimated to the style of game and get big enough to take the pounding. I still wouldn't count on him being in the NHL next year but you never know. I'm excited to get a peek at him. Interesting to see how much ice time Trotz gives him. The caps were 2 points out of the playoffs when they made the trade. The loss of playoff revenue is immense. Plus the entire regime was under fire and pressure to win now. They'd be in the playoffs if the season ended today so from that aspect it;s been successful for the caps. By the time Forsberg is ready to contribute big Ovechkin is likely close to done.
