NFLStudent
Each and every one of them that do know the playbook are better than Young. Never mind physical ability, they're better quarterbacks. Knowing the playbook doesn't make you a better quarterback. You and I can learn the playbook, that doesn't mean we have the talent to go out there and make the throws. Nevermind the physical ability? Without the physical ability you got nothing. It's that kind of thinking that put Todd Collins in the NFC Championship game two years ago. Cutler got hurt and her comes the guy who knows the playbook. He sucked so bad that went to Calib Hanie in two series.

amyinsparta
They won the National Championship!! No one did anyone a disservice. Is he smart enough to play in the NFL? Lets ask the Giants, Texans and Cardinals. The reason VY isn't in the league isn't because he can't play. It's because he's NOTHING off the field that a franchise wants. He's a PR nightmare and not a face of a multimillion dollar company. He handled the Jeff Fisher situation horribly. And in the NFL few guys are more respected than Jeff Fisher. What did he do off the field at Philly and Buffalo? He didn't get arrested for any sin. He had some money problems, that's all. He likely is illiterate for all intents and purposes and cannot read the play book. Do you think he is going to admit that? He would rather say he was Kenny Britt stupid than to admit he can't read. tinman
I still think the NCAA needs to look into his college days.. Someone took his test.. He probably signs X for his name... He is the dumbest dude ever.. How do you let someone fuck you out of 50 mill.. Then take a out a huge loan that you can't pay then throw yourself a 300k birthday party.. Yeah he is about as intellegent as an earthworm...
titanruss
i have zero doubts that VY dedicated himself and began working hard (yes, it's relative but it could have still possibly been considered hard work) mid to late 2008. He should have won the starting position going into 2009 and it showed in preseason. fish didn't want him to have it. maybe you can blame him.. maybe you cant but it looked that whole season like he should have been the starter from day one after he took over. this was a vindication time for vince... he felt he had won the spot - "made it" if you will. he thought his hard work had paid off. fish still didn't want him starting and the next season came about. he had an EXCUSED absence from practice during steeler week. (bad idea, yes... but it was excused).. he was late to a meeting one time that was reported earlier in the year. the media story that came out after he was benched the steelers game (no doubt from fishers mouth) was that VY missed or was late to multiple practices. in this case it was probably just the two... the one excused missed day and the one late day... but the world "multiple" is so much more damning than the truth. it looks bad when you report it and gets the fans and media behind Fish's rationale to choose to sit the guy when he wants to. plus, with Bud never being around it sends a message to him that his boy isn't playing by the rules. if Bud lived in BSP where he belongs, then you probably never hear this story and agenda driven media leakings don't occur. VY was sat against the steelers and shouldnt have been... you give him his lumps. then he was IR'd when he shouldn't have been.(he was physically healthy in 4 weeks) The kid was pissed because he thought the job was his and the team was his. He knew his time was up so he said fuck it and threw his shit in the stands. VY was a good player his last two years in Tennessee... it's really hard to debate against that. The stats he put up over that 2009-2010 spread rival any QB we've ever had and actually surpass Mcnair in many comparisons. Problem is he couldn't play the bigger man. He made his bed because of his early issues and unfortunately he was dealing with a coach that holds major grudges. If VY had manned up and followed the company line after 2009 he is still playing here... but he felt (from his perspective) he was getting screwed. If fisher hadn't forced the incontinuity at the QB position because of a grudge and his power being threatened.... fisher would still have a job here. both were at fault. In the end of this VY vs Fish thing... Fisher wins because he can deal with people and Vince is forever stuck dealing with that burnt bridge and lower intelligence that takes him a couple of years to really understand the playbooks. Don't get me wrong. VY was 100% at fault... but fisher also did not want him to succeed and did everything in his power to bench the kid no matter how many games he won for the guy. Those have always been my thoughts on the two. Fish should have had less power and given in more.. hell, when he did have to coach VY he was a MUCH better coach (check his record without VY starting). VY should have sucked it up a second time after winning the starting job back and understood he was dealing with a more powerful man in football circles than himself. its that simple. good riddence to both. There's bound to be a shirtless sausage party message board out there somewhere you can go have relevant conversations about your hero. Save the insults for someone who cares. Make a case if you have one. Nobody on this board or any other can give REAL football reason why VY didn't play and what's worse is, they know they can't. He's better than most of the backups and a few of the starters in the NFL.
NFLStudent
Knowing the playbook is one of the minimum requirements for the job. Knowing the playbook helped Kerry Collins win so many more games than VY. But no one has an answer for than. No one here can answer if VY is better than Matt Leinart or Joe Webb. I'm sure they know the playbook. What he do in Philly and Buffalo? He won 1 out of 3 games. Not really a big body of work.

Guest
They'd probably rather start Tavaris Jackson then Webb too but there's something called development and upside teams buy into and reserve some roster spots for and everyone understands but you and a few other losers that Webb still has some hope to turn into something and Vince Young doesn''t. scine09
I think CTF has a point in that one reason that teams shy away from Young is that they don't think that he will get better. It still doesn't change the fact that he's better than several guys out there on rosters who have already reached their peak, which is nowhere near where Young's peak was at in 2009 and 2010. Matt Leinart and Brady Quinn being the two best examples. If you want to win one game tomorrow and your choices are Vince Young, Brady Quinn or Matt Leinart it's a no-brainer that you'd take Young, even after being away from the game for an entire year. And the other problem with Young is there's a circus type atmosphere that comes with him that these other guys don't bring. It's just not worth the headache.
