TampaTitan
As proof that Chris Johnson is about stats and not about the team, this is what he said regarding playing in the cold weather: "We played at New England in the snow and I had I think 140 yards in that game, so hopefully we'll have the same result." Is he serious?? Perhaps he was talking about the success of the running game that day and is saying he's hopefull they'll be able to have that kind of success in the cold weather this week? He didn't say "hopefully I have the same result."...

Is he serious?? Of course he's serious. The team lost 59-0 that day and he was happy. He came off the field against the Bears game really happen because he had 140+ yards. Biggest stat whore ever
kyle021
He's been way too cocky in the past and has given the impression that he's more about him than the team. How? When?
scine09
How? When? Read this entire thread. I cited examples.
kyle021
Read this entire thread. I cited examples. I didn't make it past your comment when I read it... Until now The 140 yard performance at New England he was simply talking about how they had success running it in the coldest, and ugliest conditions and that hopefully they would be able to do the same this time around when it comes to running the ball There was no I or me involved in that... I'm asking if you had ever seen him go on any kind of rant, or temper tantrum b/c things weren't going his way...? You can cite the holdout but he would of been dumb not to hold out and get the money while it was hot... It's only once in a lifetime you have an opportunity to make big time money like that... you would be dumb not too The only thing I can think of that would be a selfish act is when maybe he banged on the drums in KC his rookie year? Idk I just don't see the selfish player... I see an inconsistent one at times, but not a selfish me first type
scine09
No I haven't seen it Kyle. It's just a feeling I get from comments he's made in the past. For example, he thinks he should have gotten the MVP in 2009, the same year that his team went 8-8. A team first guy would have said that he didn't do enough to help the team win more games. Maybe getting an extra yard here or there would have helped the Titans get to 9-7 or 10-6. It's like Derek Jeter. He can go 4 for 5 but if the Yankees don't win what do you think he'll say? That none of it mattered because they didn't win and maybe had he gone 5 for 5 they'd have had a better shot at winning.

TampaTitan
I think it would sould pretty stupid for him to say "maybe if I would have rushed for more than 2,006 yards we would have won more games" considering only 6 players in league history have even been in a position to make such a statement. Just my opinion. I'm sorry, but when you run for that many yards and do what he did that season, you more than did your part to help the team win. I'm way in the minority, but the idea that a team has to be good (wins) in order to recognize the individual performance of a player (MVP) doesn't jive. CJ was the team in 2009. Nobody in the NFL meant more to their own team. That's value... but ignore it because everyone else was terrible.
TampaTitan
It was 1000% an MVP caliber season. If CJ comes out and says he didn't do enough to deserve it, do people then view him as being extremely modest and humble? No chance.
scine09
How is it an MVP caliber season if the team went 8-8 and missed the playoffs? The goal of every team is to get to the playoffs. The Titans failed at that goal. Therefore there was no player on the Titans that was more valuable than a player that actually helped his team get to the playoffs. TampaTitan
Without CJ how many wins does that team have? Making the postseason is not a requirement to win MVP, in any sport. It's an individual award and there was no other individual who did what he did that year. Not even close. By your formula they should wait until after the SB is played and give it to a player from the winning team.
CMJ
The team lost 59-0 that day Way to have the boys ready Jeff!
