"If he departed for another position, Swinney would be on the hook for $3 million following this season (2012), $2.5 million following 2013, $2 million in 2014, $1.5 million in 2015, $750,000 in 2016 and nothing in 2017."

I read several articles about the UT situation today. The buyout for Dooley is going to be about 5M. But when you add in the coordinators and assistants the total is going to run about 9M. They are also still paying Bruce Pearl and the former baseball coach. Of course not all this money is due now but the athletic dept only has about 1.9m in reserve.

When you buyout the contract of another employed coach, I'm assuming that money has to be paid immediately. Also read that Gruden is making 4.3M at ESPN.

Hard times and difficult choices in Knoxville.

This reeks of the Manning drama all over again, but someone is saying that Gruden is wearing an orange tie on MNF tonight. Not at the house yet so I haven't seen it myself, but if it's true it won't do anything to slow the speculation frenzy that's already happening.

UT doesn't have a financial plan to pay for Dooley and his assistants, much less buying out any other coach.

If speculation and "insiders" are to be believed, both Haslams, Manning, and various other boosters have signed on to front the cash to get a homerun hire. Again, these are insiders from online message boards, so take it with a grain of salt.

It's a fork in the road for UT.. Hire another token coach who MIGHT catch fire in the first few years or rinse and start over again, or they could pay up and get some one who brings a name and reputation and be patient. I bet Gruden could have them in the SEC east hunt after 2 years..

Click on the assistant tab.. That gives you the total salary for all coaches on the staff.. TN ranks around 12th with 5.5 mill a year.. The highest is paying about 8.5.. I think if TN wants to play ball they need to toss about 2 mill a year raise to the coaching staff coming in and get the best staff they can get..

Dooley makes 2M and the total is 5.5M? That doesn't add up. Better there is some money in that total for Fulmer. I read somewhere that they were still paying him but it was about over.

From Wes Rucker on Memphis radio

"Jon Gruden is way more in play than most people realize, and there

are some in the athletic dept who would be absolutely stunned if they

don't get him".

Rucker also reported Gruden met with Chargers special teams coach Rich Bisaccia about potentially working together at Tennessee.
