I think it's a blessing in disguise if they can keep Weber and get some forward help. Weber is the face of the franchise, build around him. He is a tank and the best defenseman in the NHL. If he won't commit long term, trade him to the highest bidder for a king's ransom and start the re-tooling.

Question: Does the Suter signing with the Wild increase or decrease the likelihood of Weber signing longterm?

Probably doesn't help, but I dont think their fates are inextricably tied together. If it frees up some cash to get some offensive help it may help. I think Weber will make his own decision. I think in the end he'll be traded, but we shall see.

I think it helps. They should be able to afford to make Web a very good contract offer, plus it really puts some pressure of the FO NOT to let both stars slip away. Of course Shea has a say in the deal as well but we can't afford to let both our defensive anchors go to teams in the western conference.

Realistically, we couldn't keep Weber, Suter and Rinne. And I think Suter (while and elite player) was the right guy to let go. Like others have said, I think now we can afford to make Weber a realistic long term offer. We have plenty of talented prospects defensively, so we should be able to retool in house, although I'd be surprised if we didn't sign another defense man.

I'm just glad he didn't sign with Detroit.

This was totally expected and obvious to everyone in the hockey world but I know the way fans are and you guys have my sympathies nonetheless. It's a shitty market to be a hockey fan in...you have nothing but heartbreak ahead of you. It doesn't work there. That's no troll. That's just your good ol uncle ctf giving you the truth again.

Weber is gone next year. Guaranteed.

The Preds sign Weber for a deal worth more than Suter's and we pick up Matt Carle in a trade. All will be well in HockeyTonk town. Book it Danno.
