Game of... Dexters?

Recommended Posts

Without spoilering it, I was suprise at how they went in another direction for a plotline.

Angel definitely has his crosshairs set on Dexter.

Still find the know it all detective annoying .

It’s been 12 years since season 8 came out…. How long is “a while” to you?

I'll give seasons 5-8 this, even when I thought it was "bad" it was still some of the more compelling television of the time. Not Breaking Bad level, but still upper tier. Put another way, even if I t

I enjoyed original sin. They did a great job casting actors that look like a younger version of the OG cast.

Yeah, just a magical all-knowing 8 ball. OP detective skills. It took Batista forever and a day to put 2 and 2 together where it comes to Dexter and she'll probably figure him out in 5 mins when she's made aware. Same thing annoyed me about the police chief in New Blood. At least there's no chance of romantic involvement with this one.

Overall they're minor annoyances I can tolerate as long as it doesn't push the story in too much of an illogical direction. I'm really liking the show otherwise. It feels like early Dexter go me.

I’m not really sure this is praise but the general incompetence of Miami metro in the original series always made me laugh.

The Uma Thurman is kind of interesting because we still don’t know much about her.

One last complaint: the soundtrack /music on this series is subpar (compared to the OG series).  I am not talking about them just dumping new songs every episode.  The original music/soundtrack just fit the character and city better.

Last weeks episode was one of the best setups ever, imo.  Bravo!

It's one thing for someone like Doakes to confront Dexter. Those two were at odds from the pilot episode. And Deb almost had to take Dexter's side just because he's family. But Batista and Dexter? Batista has always been a friend to Dexter, but Doakes was his partner and LaGuerta was his wife. He's now seeing Dexter through Doakes eyes while also feeling the betrayal and manipulation through the years.

The funny thing though is Dexter didn't actually/technically kill Doakes, LaGuerta, or Deb. So Angel's comments in the car don't quite make complete sense.

I'm really looking forward to how they wrap the season up in the last 3 episodes. Also looking forward to where they take things in future seasons.

Dexter Morgan... fuck you.

It’s consistent though.  Without giving specifics away, he always fucks up and others around him always end up paying the price as collateral damage.

I was wondering when they were finally going to get to the backstory of Charlie.  Also I’m assuming that Blessing will be a big  factor in maybe one of the last two eps.  They don’t go over his background unless there’s a reason to.

It's not just that he fucks up, it's also the fact he can't control other people's fuck ups. Remember in season 7 after Deb seems to get Speltzer and they're out in the parking lot. She's trying to convince him to give up Harrison, saying "you're like a fucking magnet, bad shit is going to find you."

She starts to say how she would've been dead if he'd been any later getting to Speltzer's place, which he retorts "but I wasn't." Then she says "you were too late for Rita." Then he comes back to say that not killing Trinity sooner was the mistake he made. That "everything is in my control."

He may be highly efficient at covering his tracks, but he's more than just a tad deluded to think anything is in his control, let alone everything.

Yeah he gets kind arrogant . It was kind of funny when Harrison nailed it and said the same thing in the phone conversation during that episode.

I was trying to post this in the other reply, but I was on a different device that doesn't have the spoiler button available. Anyway...

Spoiler

I'm still having a hard time reading her. I kept thinking she'd be the end of Dexter, and who knows, but after seeing why she does what she does for Prater idk.

She obviously has no qualms about getting her hands dirty, but her comments about Prater's "sick fucks" club makes me think she'd have no qualms about letting Dexter put Prater on his table if her mother wasn't a factor. And the more she learns about Dexter's background and why/how he does what he does she may wind up an ally of his, even if begrudgingly.

But that's just a little theory I've been germinating in my mind today.

Just finished up the season finale.   Pretty satisfying, all things considered.  They still play a bit loose with time/physics but hey, it is what it is...

Spoiler

I wonder if Charlie leaving with her mom and the unfinished business with Rapunzel will be part of the next season...

I wonder if they will move to a different locale for next season.  Seems like they will stay in NYC.

I'm guessing NYC.  The fam Dexter is staying with, plus the threat of the cast iron investigator chick might make for some story lines.  Will he go after loose ends and leave town?  That would leave Harrison vulnerable.  Chances are, I'm totally wrong and pointed in the wrong direction for where they're going.  Good.   I don't want to have a friggin clue where we're going from here forward.

I’m hoping the investigator goes away.  Also I can’t imagine them not following up on the Batista plotline at least for an ep.

Him hunting for that fat ass with glasses (Al) isn’t interesting enough to devote episodes to next year.
