It’s been 12 years since season 8 came out…. How long is “a while” to you?

I'll give seasons 5-8 this, even when I thought it was "bad" it was still some of the more compelling television of the time. Not Breaking Bad level, but still upper tier. Put another way, even if I t

I enjoyed original sin. They did a great job casting actors that look like a younger version of the OG cast.

Hell yes.  Was Dexter: Original Sin any good?  I didn't watch it.

And does Michael C. Hall ever age?  Dude still looks the same as he did in Six Feet Under.

Surprisingly, yes. I kinda didn't like it at first but I think that was just because it was jarring seeing someone else playing Dexter and Deb, not to mention seeing Christian Slater play Harry. He did a good enough job, but he didn't make me forget James Remar at all. The guy they had play young Masuka got his pervert laugh down to a T. Lol

There were some nice callbacks to the original series. Events, characters you'll recognize, etc. It definitely has more of the vibe of the first few seasons of the original. I'd recommend it.

I also saw they have a Trinity Killer spinoff in the works.

I hope they don't go too much in the weeds of trying to get people to sympathize with the character. That might just rob people of the emotion of what happened at the end of season 4.

I mean, they already pretty much laid out what happened to turn him into the monster he became. There's enough there to already feel some sympathy for him without getting too sympathetic.

Of course, that probably makes me a hypocrite for liking the show Dexter in the first place. It's all about sympathy for a serial killer. "Oh, so it's ok to be sympathetic to this serial killer, but not that serial killer." Lol

No.  Season 8 pretty much killed off my interest in the series for a while.

Yeah... him becoming a lumberjack was a bit jacked.

I'm with people who say the series fell off after season 4. But that's because the primary creative team, including the showrunner, left after season 4. But I still enjoyed the majority of the rest of the seasons because of the chemistry of the actors.

New Blood was ok. I'd say it was definitely better than season 8, but the ending of it was still lackluster and unsatisfying. Probably why they've brought it back again. But it seems like they're planning on more than just a one-off season like they did with New Blood, so instead of that being an ending it's a new beginning.

If you're going to watch this new season coming out I would recommend watching New Blood.

Honestly this is what they should have done after S4.  They should have had him change locales .  The cast of characters at Miami Metro was pretty much fungible outside of Deb and Ghost Harry.

S5 was ok/decent outside of a weak villain.  S6 was awful because of Hanks.  S7 was ok mainly due to Ray Stevenson.  The stuff with the Australian actress was cringe worthy at times.

Ill probably start on new blood soon since I have roughly a month before this new one comes out.

I don't agree with people who say the series fell off after season 4.  IMO the issue was that season 5 and the whole "Lumen" storyline sucked.  But once that ended, I thought it was solid again until the end.

So you were actually into the whole "Deb falls in love with Dexter" thing? Even knowing they were married IRL for a while it still made me cringe to no end. Kudos to MCH and JC for their acting chops but I wonder if they put that in there to make it awkward for them to work together and make her want to quit. Idk...

Anyway, I liked parts of all the last four seasons but they weren't nearly as good as the first four, imo. I think season 7 was probably the best of the last four. I can't ride with @rns90's comments about Yvonne Strahovski. She a baddie. Cringe away!

Ha ha I forgot about that Deb falls in love with Dexter thing.  No, you're right I wasn't into that.  But I also only saw that as a minor annoyance and thought the rest was still pretty good.
