SleepingTitan
I prefer reading over watching the news. I’m finding it harder to depend on free resources, and I’m tired of shitty writing from clickbait and news sites that need to drive impressions. What news sources do you guys sub to? Years ago, I had Rollingstone, Wallstreet Journal. I’m thinking about getting the Atlantic and Washington Post. Looking to spend less than $50/mo total. For a lot of them you can sign up for a free trial or a new subscription at a discounted rate. Then when the discount runs out just go to cancel and they will probably offer you a discounted price to not cancel. Also, you can use Google News, Apple News, Microsoft News, and even Yahoo News for free for a lot of articles. They obviously link to some paid sources, but a lot of it is free. I already use the aggregators, but usually the articles worth more than a skim are paid subs.
chef
The Atlantic - though not in newspaper category - churns out consistently high quality in-depth articles that are about as even-handed as it gets, even though they ain't perfect either as no one is. In a similar vein, The Economist is one to consider. SleepingTitan
ChemEngr79
I have been mostly satisfied with my Washington Post subscription. I canceled my much more expensive NYT subscription as I didn't perceive it to be a good value. I also use google news quite a bit.

That's definitely on the list.

I loved the Post back in undergrad, but I feel like they went further left when Bezos purchased them. Maybe I just went further right. I'll be glad when Trump is out of the picture so people will stop talking about him. MadMax, and ChemEngr79
SleepingTitan
I got the Atlantic. Thinking of adding Economist and one more: Scientific American, The New Yorker, Bloomberg or the Post. Atlantic was $120 for digital, print & ad free for the year. Just past couple days been re-"reading" ie audiobooking David Foster Wallace's Consider the Lobster, mostly a collection articles he did for magazines over the years. On the last one now, "Host," that was from The Atlantic in 2005, which focuses on a LA AM right wing talk show host and looks at the entire movement that was in process then. Really well done, and as usual, he tends to look at the reality from all sides while always critiquing his own and everyone else's biases. Book also has the "Up, Simba" piece he did for Rolling Stone (but in full which is considerably longer than the Rolling Stone published version) where he went on the road with the John McCain Straight Talk Express 2000 campaign. That piece actually seems pretty quaint now, considering the shift in campaign behavior and political rhetoric the past 20 years, particularly since Trump. Gives a lot of perspective to re-read it now. Just saying The Atlantic has a solid history of quality work from quality writers. So good for you. Enjoy. titanruss

I’m pretty sure he is losing a lot of his business. I think he lost a quarter million subscribers within days of him blocking the paper from making a presidential endorsement.
