I met Pete Rose in person once.  It was in 1997 or 1998 after he was banned for gambling.

My friend and I sit down at a blackjack table at Caesars in Reno.  Low and behold, Pete Rose is already sitting at the table and gambling away.  It was surreal.

No.  He knowingly committed the cardinal sin of betting on baseball while as a manager (can't remember if he was doing so as a player/manager).   He knew the rules and then lied about it for years after getting caught.

If he bet against his team and purposely tanked the game, I would understand... Making money on sports betting only makes sense if you bet against your team in my opinion.  But yeah, he broke the rules.  He still deserves to be in the HOF

There was some evidence that he did in fact bet against his own team.

A strong case can be made for Joe Jackson.   Although he knew about throwing the world series and took the money, he still batted .375 with perfect fielding.

Time to put Rose in.
