Guest
I know there are tons of busts that have come through the NFL that never would have been busts if they had been drafted into the right situation. There are hall of famers who have come through the league who would have been busts had they been drafted into a different situation. Someone who believes in this even more than I do is Fisher...Fisher always thought he could create situation to where guys could be successful and in so doing he tended to be too loyal and too stubborn with guys he should have moved on from. In some ways he was right...I have never seen a team get more out of a season that the Titans got in 2007 getting virtually nothing from the backfield...the problem is there's a ceiling there. You can Coperfield getting in to the payoffs with Young and White as your starters in the backfield but you're already over trading against potential and talent and the season can't get past that point. VY was drafted by a team with a very strong running game, a plucky opportunistic defence, a quality OLine, an opportunistic special teams unit and a head coach who was going be the most patient supportive guy in the league for him....the closest thing to Mack Borwon in the NFL...a guy who would throw out his offense for him, look the other way on every off field and on field transgression, make the offence protect the ball, don't put him in bad situations, etc... That is the biggest difference between Young and Leaf and Leinart and Couch and the rest of them. That is why Young is often mentioned in the same breath as those guys despite his w/l record. People that understand football and understand what he had here know he had to work very hard to bust out. He busted in spite of everything that was afforded to him. I don;'t think he ever would have started 8 games in the NFL for any other organization.
Legaltitan
I believe that puts a neat bow on this whole thing, and it is hard to say it much better than that. You didn't even go overboard with the Fisher man-love. Well done, CTF. 4* posting right there.

I believe the players buy into his system and run it as far as it will go. I also do believe you are on the money with your assessment of how VY was handled and why he did as well as he did. Especially the part of he'd probably not started 8 games most anywhere else. Can you imagine his fragile psyche dealing with the Tuna? Or Chucky? The real riot was when people talked about the unfair criticism, and Vince even mentioned it himself. Ask Donovan McNabb how hard it can be. McNabb isn't a hall of famer, but he was an extremely solid starter for years and had the Eagles in the thick of things and on the verge of titles year in and year out, and from the moment his name was called out in the draft he was under a microscope and endured a firestorm of criticism and scrutiny. You and I used to go round and round about how Leinart was too Hollywood and that VY was the perfect fit. Just man up and admit it.

You and I used to go round and round about how Leinart was too Hollywood and that VY was the perfect fit. Just man up and admit it. I was all for the Titans drafting Young and extremely excited when they did it. I thought he'd be the perfect replacement for McNair and I hated Leinart and thought he had no future as a starting QB in the league. As far as a superfan, how do you define a superfan? I watched him play maybe 2 or 3 times in college, didn't know much about him, didn't even think much of him being the Titans QB until he declared because all I'd heard was that he was a mid-round pick and was surprised that he was going so high. But yeah I supported the Young pick, thought it was the right move obviously. Not sure how that makes me a superfan.

titanruss
i wanted cutler but was happy with VY after his rookie year. his sophomore year was nothing special, but he was still growing then. I'm pretty sure fisher was hell bent on benching him after 2007 and with good reason as VY never treated the job like it was important until late 2008. I wasn't done with him until mid 2010, and it wasn't because of his playing ability (which was actually pretty damn good from 2009-2010) but because of his injuries. i saw that he could never be a true run threat if he kept getting hurt and just figured we may as well draft a passer only if that was the offense we'd have to run anyhow. i will be forever grateful to him though for helping get rid of fisher.
