Vilma expects suspension

They are really hammering the Saints. I've never seen one organization punished so harshly that I can remember.

They've never caught any other team implementing a bounty system, either. I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but never has come to light.

They did find a team that was actively cheating one time and did nothing.

I guess the Eagles in the 1990s under Buddy Ryan doesn't count since there were different Commissioners?

I don't get the whole bounty thing. Football used to be a man sport. The version we see today is straight up pansy. Baseball pitchers are instructed by their managers to hit a batter and it results in very little. Hockey coaches send the enforcer out to destroy someone, start fights, ect......very little is done.

Tie Domi would have been perfect with Williams.

There will be some suspensions meted out arbitrarily, with no basis in logic. Probably players that have opened their mouths about the situation will be punished. This happens to Goodell often, where he talks so toughly, he is left to hand down tough justice of some sort, even if it is unreasonable and capricious.

If Goodell did anything short of what he is doing now he would lose all legitimacy and respect from the players union. He has meticulously gone after individual players with severe fines and suspensions over player safety and unprofessional conduct issues. The Saints basically took the cake for both while adding the deadly duo of premeditation and institutionalization. To be so severe with players in the name of safety and professionalism and then come off looking lax with GMs and coaches would be his undoing. He painted himself into a corner with the precedents he set and the Saints gave him no choice but to bring down the wrath of Godell. They should consider themselves lucky to be aloud to field a team this season.
