A theory rooted in physics that has been proven to be plausible is FAR more believable than magic and demons. 2. No one has made the claim that we got here by chance. Only that magic sky daddy talked about in the book of spells is definitely NOT rooted in reality. A five year old could listen to bible stories and see them for what they are. This ain't hard bro. BS. those theories are not plausible and flies in the face of rational thought. Physics has proven the odds the Universe being created as it is so finely tuned to be so incredibly against it ever happening. On top of that physics has proven that life starting on its own, then having more life created to be able to form more complex organisms to also be incredibly improbable. Talk about massive faith! Your stupid retort about the biblical teachings doesn't work. There is a God, there and angels and demons, and there is a heaven and hell. And saying you are agnostic is the coward way out. What to you believe about this?.....Gee Mr. Hand, I don't know.

The Bible does not call for the stoning of young kids, only adult kids. The Bible does not call for the killing of women that have been raped. And of course you are wrong in your interpretation of buying a sword. Jesus knew the Christians would be facing major persecution, and there would be times they would need to protect themselves, not turn the other cheek. Jesus did not say to forgive and FORGET, as you said. There are consequences to our actions, and punishment/discipline earned should be delivered. And you don't just forget things as if they never happened. You will lose arguing with me on this. I have studied as an adult and know so much more of the Bible than you. II Kings 2: 23-24: “From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking up the path, some small boys came out of the city and harassed him, chanting, ‘Go up, baldy! Go up, baldy!’ He turned around, looked at them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two female bears came out of the woods and mauled 42 of the children.” LOL

Christians always play these dumb dumb games but how do I even respond to that with a straight face? Physics says the world will end VERY SOON and ghosts and monsters are going to fight over the scraps! Prove me wrong cuz your theory doesn't have any logic! Laughable and pathetic. What the conventional churches won't accept is the Bible was written for people 2,000 years and 3,000 years ago. People then understood things differently. The Eve snake story is in other religious books of that time. There have also been other Jesus' in different parts of the world. But now just a book of stories, these were allegories. Ministers today with read a bible verse, then they expand on the idea the verse implies, the subtle meaning. Nobody was supposed to believe Noah built a ship with two of every species. There are 8.7M species on the planet today. It would take a lot more than one family to round up 16, say just 2M species in any amount of time. Let alone put them on a ship and have food. Most of them eat other species. More so, these were stories to describe starting over, making a big change. The other stories are the same, but this was presented to a simple people. They believed in big fish way out in the sea that would swallow people up. But today, it just doesn't make sense to take a sophisticated mind and have them believing those are true stories. Thee problem is power, the organized church. The church believes if you start telling people the Bible is full of allegories, they would just not follow anything. If you empower the people to understand the truth, what do they need you for? Take tithing. The church is still asking people to give 10% of their earnings to them, most will accept even more. The tithe or 10th was for a communal lifestyle. There were twelve tribes, ten were producers of various goods, needs, foods. One was the tribe that collected the funds and enforced the laws. Build roads. One was the tribe that ran the church. They each received money through these tithes to fund their operations. The church was also the home for widows and orphans. The church fed the poor. The church was the hospital. It was a system of government. That's a very simple explanation. Most churches asking for this same money, provide none of these things. Also, the ministers live much better than most of the members. More reason to teach old laws and teachings as if they are true stories. Power. Even if you give hard core Christians like this the MOST generous interpretation of their faith and assume it's all allegory and not to be interpreted literally, they are still asking you to accept the harry potter version of history instead of the historical record. Worse, almost all of them don't claim the most generous interpretation, they go with Sky daddy and the demon band who are going to end the world any day now. You can't have serious conversations with people who try to claim creationism proves evolution isn't real. It just makes you feel stupid for even trying. These were not little kids, but young men. And it was God who took justice, not a declaration for us to kill young children for offenses.

During Greek times the majority of people believed in Zeus. Not that long ago a majority of people believed that the earth was flat and that the earth was the center of the universe. Using your same logic, a majority of people today believe in climate change. Your argument is ludicrous and rejected immediately by anyone with a brain. Although I came to my understanding of God through a variety of teachers, it was a more enlightened understanding of the Bible that freed me. I grew up going to a fire and brimstone church. Fear. Jesus taught about love and forgiveness. He didn't do it by threatening the people, he did it by telling simple stories. He did it by healing people. He stood up against the evangelicals who conspired to have him killed. All those old laws, Jesus was teaching people these mean things were untrue. They didn't have to follow the old rule book. Love. That is Jesus' greatest message. God loves me. God loves you. God loves us. eos

I would argue that Plato's teaching has had a far more positive impact on western society though, which makes sense because the ancient Greeks and not the Hebrews laid the true moral ground work on which western culture has thrived. pat
I believe in democracy and art and frankly that's pretty ridiculous. As long as @Little Earl isn't creating a hostile environment I'm not gonna begrudge his religion or politics. The bar is certainly lower on this site, but when people really take it too far they end up a laughing stock.
