Interesting Chris Johnson tweet.

That's a fan opinion and not shared with many experts. NFL.com and Football outsiders ranked the Titans OL highly, McClain said the scouts had nothing negative to say about the OL. Football Focus rated the Titans OL overall 6th. Mawae's last year in 2009 when CJ had 2000yds rushing Mawae graded out according to FO's as the worst starting center in the entire league. Regardless of what anyone says now the center position was upgraded when Mawae left. Johnson was able to produce with one of the worst centers in the league but now can't? I do not buy it.

Jake Scott is the oldest member and as I stated many times throughout the season he would be replaced in the off season so he was a non issue.

I believe it was Jonboy on the podcast who stated he wanted Amano or Harris replaced as well but wasn't sure how they graded or who was worse. That's just a crazy stance right there and just looking for an excuse for CJ. It's held by many on these forums. They want the entire interior replaced or they aren't sure who's the problem etc....

ha ha.. Bull shit. Amano was one of the worst guards in the league and had been ranked as the worst before... then he moved to a position he'd never played. he IS worse than amano.. and that is saying something.

From Pro Football Focus... Titans #1 need this offseason is DE. #2 is...

Secondary Need: Center

While the offensive line in its entirety was one of the best in the business last season, the Center position remains the weak link.Eugene Amano (-13.8) was the only man to receive a negative grade in 2011, because he was something of a liability when it came to running the ball. Running off-Center, the Titans averaged just 2.2 yards per carry. Compare that to 4.1 ypc off -guard, and 4.0 ypc off-Tackle. After back-to-back seasons as the starting center (-26.4 grade in 2010), it would appear Amano is not the answer to the Titans problems. Head coach Mike Munchak did admit that he is considering moving Amano to guard for 2012....

--------

what don't you get?

they are only ranked highly because of the pass blocking. MH makes his oline look miles better than they are in that regard... as evidenced by MH's last two starting Right Tackles being ranked #1 in the league in pass blocking... The guy in seattle is now ranked 58th this year and Stew jumped up like 18 spots this year...

I didn't say Amano was good at center, I said he was an upgrade over Mawae. Mawae was completely washed up in 09.

And my point was in 09 CJ still produced even with a terrible center.

The difference in the two years is not the interior OL, it's the RB. CJ isn't half the RB he was in 09.

That being said, I would love to get DeCastro in the first, but there is no way we trade up to do so. Actually, I think we should trade down and grab Konz toward the end of the first, and maybe pick-up and extra 2nd or 3rd pick to address our defense or a OG spot like Zeitler (yep, two Wisconsin boys). Unless Barron or a top WR is available at #20, the value is not there.

This is a mock I had posted back in December. If we could slide back in the first and pick up an early second round pick, it has a chance of coming true. Although Zeitler may have climbed too high on most Big Boards....

Okay, I'll play:

1. Peter Konz, 6' 5",315 LBS, C, Wisconsin

2. Kendall Wright, 5' 10", 190 LBS, WR, Baylor (4.42 FORTY) How did he run a 4.6 at the Combine? Pick up an early 2nd.

3. Kevin Zeitler, 6' 4", 318 LBS, G, Wisconsin (with our original Round Two pick)

4. Ryan Miller, 6' 8", 298 LBS, G, Colorado

5. Jermaine Kearse, 6' 1", 208 LBS, WR, Washington (4.50 FORTY)

6. Eddie Whitley, 6', 200 LBS, FS, Va Tech (4.56 FORTY)

7. Tyrone Crawford, 6' 4", 275 LBS, DE, Boise State (4.75 FORTY)

Why are the Titans not entertaining any thoughts of keeping Scott around then? Could it be despite being a solid pass protector he is so God awful in the running game they can't imagine having him back? Obviously we don't need a guy who is as bad in pass protection as Scott was in the run game. We actually need someone who is decent at both.

Scott is a free agent and it's quite normal for the team to bring in the younger guys they have developed over the years like they did with Harris and Amano. That's not some bold statement. Scott's getting older and can be replaced. It's highly likely Scott would get replaced if the running game performed well this past season.

We can only hope that CJ was embarrassed at his performance last year and is serious about working hard this off season and starts out next year running hard.

I know this is what Im hoping for.

What everyone fails to forget is when amano replaced mawae, some around here tried to convince the board that it was a great idea... that amano sucked at guard but he had played center before and would certainly be an upgrade over mawae. that way the titans could upgrade two positions with only one new guy.

amano rated worse last year than mawae did in 2009, this past year he was still the worst player on the line. moving him back to guard will solve nothing. he needs to go. the running game will not get back to elite with any RB until he is removed.

3 of the top 4 picks interior OL, 2 WRs before any defensive players and nothing in the defensive front aside from the DE with the very last pick?

You're fired

Based on who?

PFF

Are we really playing battle of the shit? Mawae, Amano, and Scott are all terrible and shouldn't be on an NFL team, much less starting.

this is from PFF before the season started... and we did nothing to change

"The way this entire unit played in 2010 would present a case for replacing all of them. They were beyond terrible and made life ridiculously hard for Chris Johnson. Many haven’t picked up on the sub standard past two years for Michael Roos (32nd ranked tackle in 2009, 37th in 2010), and most didn’t notice David Stewart’s play drop off a cliff in 2010 (where he ranked 42nd after finishing seventh a year earlier.) But everyone noticed how poor men in the interior were.

When the Titans said goodbye to Kevin Mawae we really didn’t feel they’d be losing much more than an experienced head. His performance on the field had dropped so far that you felt any guy coming in could do a better job. Wrong.

The Titans managed to take the loss of a spent force in Mawae, and turn that into getting worse at two positions. Not only did the move of Eugene Amano to center not work (he finished dead last in our center rankings), but it meant Leroy Harris moved into the starting lineup at left guard. Harris finished 79th (out of 82) in our guard rankings, with his run blocking being particularly poor. Throw in Jake Scott (finishing 76th in those same guard rankings) having a surprisingly poor year, and you have quite comfortably the worst interior offensive line in the NFL.

So the Titans need to get better here, and they need to do it quick. There’s a school of thought that more experience will improve Amano and Harris after their first years playing at center and guard respectively in the NFL. That alone allows you to temper the need for change, and focus on finding a face of the franchise that you can put behind center."
