I'm at the WSOP.  There were 7,761 entries, I cashed for close to 5K.  It was amazing this time.  This was my second Millionaire Maker.  I practiced and studied for two months.  My problem somewhat is

I just played the WSOP Millionaire Maker in Vegas, knocked out 2nd day 265th place, win $5990.  There were 7,275 entries.  I played with some top professionals, I didn't know any of them.  The photogr

OK.  Ready to talk about it.  I got knocked out day one.   I didn't get very many good hands.  I had two nice pots that would have put me back over the 50K starting stack and I played both very well.

As for Mickelson, he has had no comment on the case and for the most part, why should he? It seems fairly obvious that his money was used without his permission. Beyond that, as noted in the ESPN article on the case, gambling laws are targeted at companies and enterprises, not individuals.

I found this in an article about Phil's gambling bets.  I am sure that would apply to internet gambling.  Also, why is it legal to wager on FF and not real football?

Played in a 180.00 buy in yesterday that paid 4350 for first and gave out 3 seats into a 3500 WPT main event

about 25 people left....

Blinds are 600-1200 and I'm pretty low at 10k

under the gun makes it 2500, someone calls I shove for 10k.....

Guy next to me smooth calls for 10k(he has about 30k, another lady smooth calls the 10k(she has about 40k), the original raiser calls......

flop is 843, turn 4 then two people are left and they go all in, cards flip over and the other tow have 88 and 99.....

The funny thing was this old man that 88 did not want to call the all in after the turn. He's sitting their with 8s full of 4s and afraid. Yet he was unafraid to call off a 3rd of his stack to see a flop with 8s for 10k.

I knew against 3 people I was pretty much dead but still the maddest I been in a while.

Another poker series, "Poker Night in America"

Played in Event #1 yesterday, "The Monster Stack". It's a 240.00 buy in that had 351 players. We played 24 30 min levels starting at Noon until 2:30 AM.

36 players made the money. We're down to 14 players and play resumes at 2 PM today.

I have 225,000K but blinds are 10-20K with a 3k ante. Everyone is pretty short stacked.

First is 15K plus, if I do not move up another spot I'll cash for 977.00

Good luck and don't be afraid to take a risk every now and then instead of always sticking to the odds.

Honestly taking too much risk is often a hole in my game and gets me into trouble, I've knocked myself out on the bubble or deep playing more reckless than aggressive. Several times yesterday as the better players were trying to be aggressive and raise preflop I shoved on them. It's really the only reason I made it, because I was pretty card dead.

Strategy is pretty much out the window in this thing now anyway.

People are anywhere from 150k-400k in chips. Blinds are 10-20k with 3k ante. When the blinds move through you you lose 36k of your stack, you have to be willing to gamble now and luck will determine who advances to a large degree.

A couple of dumbasses will just go down to nothing without taking a stand

The first part surprises me to hear.  From all the poker stuff we've talked about over the years, I got the impression you played pretty conservatively.

As for the second part, some people who think cards is all about skill need to understand this better.

Poker tournament strategy is not a one size fits all.

The different stages of the tournament, the structure of the tournament, your stack size compared to the blinds and the opponents all factor into the most optimal way to play.

There is most definitely a math based ABC sound strategy in playing basic winning poker. This has to be the foundation of your game. After that understanding what your opponents are doing or thinking comes into play, building a table image etc.....

Yesterday an older lady who didn't play a hand for an hour raised in late position and I was in the big blind with A-10 suited, I folded without a 2nd thought. Later on this young cocky kid raised, which he had been doing often, I looked down an saw K-9 and shoved on the kid, he folded. Different opponents and different strategy based on the opponent.

As far as the skill vs luck. In certain situations it's mostly luck, who will get the best cards today, who will win the all ins when it's AJ vs 66 etc.....

But, over time the skill rises to the top. The more tournaments you play the more the variance is reduced.

If you play for a living or a serious hobby over the course of years it skill. If you enter one tournament it's largely luck. You ain't wrong but not all the way right

Went out 12th, pretty brutal.

Had about 250k, guy makes it 50k preflop, I'm in the small blind with AJ and I shove, he calls with A-10, 10 on the flop. It was a 500k+ pot and would have put me in 3rd or so.

I won 1191.00

Nice take.  Brutal but certainly could have been a lot worse.  It's not like your cards were that much better than his...
