He has improved this a lot. He also slides way early now so he got the message. I was afraid that Mariota would get one of those Jake Locker career ending hip injuries.... I'm also well aware we can't baby him and expect to win games. The play he got hit on wasn't for nothing, it was a very nice gain. Mariota is a QB that likes to use his legs and it's gonna be a part of his game. Getting hit is part of the life for a QB period, especially one who can run. It's football. Hits are gonna happen. Mariota can't be treated like some china doll.
terradawg
It's not about babying him. What was JRob's #1 priority when he got here? Protect Mariota. We have plenty of other players that are not designed to leave him wide open for a big hit. Bongo disagrees so I know I'm right.
terradawg
I'd rather see him run the ball because he has a much better chance of protecting himself.

He doesn't have the build to take too many of those hits like he took from Pacman. Isn't that fairly obvious? He's not McNair or Cam.

It's football. Guys get hurt. QBs get hurt. Especially QBs who move outside of the pocket or run a decent amount. Rodgers has had serious injuries, Ben has had serious injuries, Wilson has been dealing with injuries the past two years, Cam as well. Even guys who stay in the pocket get hurt. Palmer is as much of a statue as you can find in this league and he's always hurt. Hell, the two worst injuries in Marcus' career have come from standing in the pocket. Again, it's football. Injuries are going to happen. We can't treat him like he's a little kid just because of it, or we're never gonna contend for anything in this league. I’ll be the first to blame Mularkey but Mariota tried body slamming the guy on the interception and then he didn’t slide on the last drive. You guys haven’t watched Brady take hits at 40? The guy takes hits harder than Mariota did today Tried to body slam him? I'd say he succeeded: He got a little help from Schwenke, but I have no doubt the dude felt it. begooode
Hah, awesome Mariota holding him up so Schwenke can clean him up. And, yes, that weak ass ballerina dive from 21 deserved to be punked.
