Hot take: We are the 2015 Panthers

The stars aligned for the Panthers that year. Had one of the easiest schedules and injuries were nill.

They weren't an amazing team by any means, just solid. The stars alligned to make them look great. Except they had one major weakness in their OTs.

I feel we are going to be similar. Be solid all around, mariota looking like a god and make playoffs.

We will end up facing the Pats who will be the team to exploit our weakness, CBs. Just like the Broncos edge was the perfect storm to ruin the Panthers.

Lets hear your thoughts.

I assume you are referring to the 2015 Panthers but their D was fantastic. Cam not being relied on to throw the ball to win games REALLY mattered. Mariota is 10x the passer that Cam is but we have yet to see any semblance of a championship caliber D.

Our team is nothing like the Panthers unless you want to just point out that we can be a surprise team come January hopefully.

Yeah sorry 2015.

Also I'm not comparing the teams on a position by position basis.

Im saying it from a stance of a team with one glaring weakness who have stars allign to allow them to look phenomenal.

Then that one weakness will make our demise against the team who has the best counter to that weakness, the Pats passing game and WR/TE corps.

It'll be as weak as the Panthers OTs.

No. Our secondary is 3x better than last year.

Plus with our healthier pass rush, we will not need a secondary.

We are gonna put up a ton of points which will allow us to focus on stopping the obvious pass.

Only time will tell. I try not to go homer but using logic we should be very good this year

Ya I'm not saying we have a top secondary but it's far better than last years. It's a solid group that is young as hell and should only get better as the year goes on. Panthers OTs were proven mediocre players that got exposed.

Woodyard will also ruin our Pass D. Unless Dick believes in Jaylon we are cooked in the middle.

The 2015 Panthers were pretty dominant, 15-1 with a huge scoring differential. I wouldn't say they got exposed, they just lost to one of the best defenses ever in the Super Bowl.

Low-hanging fruit comparison. We don't have much in common with the Panthers at all and it starts with our QB, who I'd take 10 out of 10 times over Superdab.

I know we don't. I'm saying the situations will be similar to lead to the success in the year that they recieved in 2015.

What situation? That we have a weakness? Every team has at least one weakness. I don't see how that makes us similar to the Panthers.

I get what you're trying to say... that it didn't look like the Panthers were going to do much but they stormed the regular season and made it all the way to the Super Bowl, but the reason I say it's a low-hanging comparison is because there's really nothing else to compare the two teams. I could just as easily compare this year's team to the 99 Titans, even though the two teams have pretty much nothing in common except for a strong running game.

I'd actually prefer to compare us to the 99 Titans. I actually like that team. Fuck the 2015 Panthers. And the 2017 Panthers while we're at it.

Only thing I'm in wait and see mode on is the secondary. I'm not sure its gonna be a weakness.

We haven't seen Ryan in live action and Simms is looking the part. Even on the route to Davis he was where he was supposed to be. That's a sportscenter top plays catch that doesn't usually happen.

Plus we have the advantage of Ryan who's played against Brady for a few years

Plus Byard is in year 2 and Adoree could be a major playmaker in the secondary. I just don't see what the weakness is. It's not a strength but that doesn't mean it has to be a weakness.
