Basically what happens is 2 foreign officials talk about an American and in the report the American's name shows up as something like "American1". Say Kislyak and Putin are discussing an American that wants to bomb LAX. In the report, the American's name will show up as "American1" so in order for someone like Rice to know if it's a real threat, she asks that the American be "unmasked" because if it's someone who might have the knowledge of building a bomb then they need to take it seriously. If it's some 17 yr old kid in Atlanta that works at Wendy's then it's probably less serious. That's what "unmasking" actually is.

The White House does not do criminal investigations nor intelligence investigations. Susan Rice had no business calling for the “unmasking” of Trump campaign and transition officials. The FBA, CIA and NSA were/are involved in the investigations, and only they should do the unmasking. If Susan Rice was unmasking Americans, it was not to fulfill an intelligence need based on American interests; it was to fulfill a political desire based on Democrat party interests. Trump reached the date to provide the "proof" he had to the FBI and he didn't turn shit in.

You have no idea why she unmasked them and you're missing the point. When she requested they be unmasked, she didn't know who they were. She saw a name like "American1" and she requested that person be unmasked. That's it. She doesn't know who the masked person is before she unmasks them. There's never been inappropriate surveillance. That has been debunked. What has happened was other people mentioning Trump and associates. If you want to put Trump under surveillance, wiretapping other officials at the off chance they might talk to Trump or about him is a horrible way to do it. There are two exceptions for when a U.S. citizen’s name can be “unmasked”: (1) where there is evidence of crime or (2) when it is necessary to understand intelligence information. So what crime did Mike Flynn commit to merit the uncovering of his name? How was his name necessary to understand intelligence? And a bigger question than the surveillance of Flynn is, why were additional names of Trump transition team members unmasked. These questions don't even touch on Susan Rice, who has no business unmasking anyone. Who cares is she didn't know who the people were, the point is she had no business knowing. And a bigger question than the surveillance of Flynn is, why were additional names of Trump transition team members unmasked. Could be both. It was requested and the request was accepted that means there was a legit reason or it would've been denied. Point being, she didn't know it was Flynn until after the name was unmasked. Just now, Little Earl said: These questions don't even touch on Susan Rice, who has no business unmasking anyone. That means she has every right to request that someone be unmasked if she needs to know who it was to understand the context of a report or conversation. Once again... she DIDN'T KNOW WHO IT WAS WHEN SHE ASKED FOR THEM TO BE UNMASKED!
Little Earl
The Senate Intelligence Committee has been authorized to conduct a bipartisan investigation into Rice's activities. I guess they don't agree with reo's assessment of the situation.
