Titans OC explains why he's condensing field

Robiskie's explanation is laughable and sad at the same time because he's actually making it easier not harderĀ for defenses to defend tbe Titans. It's also sad that great posters like oman are homering it up because they don't have the stones to admit being wrong.

The flaw in Robiskie's explanation is that it helps createĀ space outside the hashmarks...but historically, Mariota has been more comfortable throwingĀ between the numbers. Ā  Ā

ByĀ compressing the formations,Ā they're essentially pullingĀ more defenders into the area where Mariota has been most effective, thus forcing him to make near-perfect throws into tiny windows and forcing receivers to make contested catches on virtually every play. Ā

It's obviously notĀ a great recipe for success. Ā Fortunately it's still early enough in the season to change the recipe.

How often have the Titans lined up in bunch formations? I honestly don't know

Enough for the OC to say he's condensing the field. They are throwing a ton out of heavy sets with 2 wrs. Just look at the snap count by personelĀ

Yup.Ā  And 2-on-4 or 2-on-5, or 3-on-6 doesn't work.Ā  It isn't every play but it's too damned often.Ā  It's just throwing opportunities away.

I agree it's early and the coaches need time to implement their system, adjust, and get the right players to run it. Mularkey and Robiskie will not be judged through 3 games, but through the entire season.

Through 3 games though? Just terrible scheming. Perhaps their original strategy of out-powering teams in the run game coupled with lots of trick plays, pre-snap motioning, and splitting of RBs wide (all running routes of <10 yards) will prove effective. More likely though, they will abandon a great deal of it and build a better scheme that fits Mariota. God I hope.

Coaches can't get a pass for their scheme because the players aren't very good. Robinson went out and got a lot of solid additions that match what the coaches wanted. Big RB? Here's one of the best. And here's another stud rookie. Road grading RT? Bam. Precise route-running WRs with good hands? Done. You don't want big bodied speed guys who can't handle your multiple pre-snap motions and varying route depths? Fuck them, I sent them out.

They got the players they wanted for the scheme they wanted. Robinson valued certain positions and certain traits over others because that's what the coaches asked for. I think he did a damn good job in 1 year. But don't pretend there weren't other routes the team could have gone regarding personnel.

that doesn't mean you ignore a bad or subĀ optimal scheme if it's there

You also don't expect instant success, it's going to take time and added talent

Bench Murray, throw it deep more, throw it deep less, run more, run less!!!!!

The offense has been useless through 3 games. With a worse defense like we've had in the past, these games would be blowouts.

A better defense against other bad teams does not excuse the total lack of offensive production.

And for Gawd's sake, find away to get Andrews in the game!
