Titans279
I believe the traditional structure is to have the GM in control of the 53 man roster and the coach control over the game day roster. That seems to be what we're looking for and I doubt we'd get top GM candidates if we castrated our GM. We need talent so it makes sense to try to hire a guy who has proven results acquiring talent and building a talented roster. These coordinators turned head coaches might think they know what they want, but more of them have failed than succeeded when picking their own groceries. IrishTitansFan
The 53 man roster in and of itself means very little.

BudsOilers
Banner is low keying it but the list of coaches with 53 man control is not very long. What happens if the HC with control wants to cut your prized FA? Having said that, it looks like it's becoming more common now with unproven HC's - O'Brien, Quinn, and Gase got it in their contracts. All of the others on the list were veteran HC's.
socaltitan
1 hour ago, Alcibiades said: Gase wasn't the Titans hire anyway. WAY too risky, IMO. They need a guy that can work with Mariota and develop a team. I think Jackson is the top guy, but McDaniels would not surprise me. Actually, Mularkey wouldn't shock me either. I don't like Gase's odds of success there especially with Ross as the owner. He should've waited on PHI and NYG.

Justafan
I like Gase. Hope he does well. I feel like he has an uphill battle there in Mia. It will be interesting what he does with Tannehill.
Face
Miami has a lot of talent, don't forget a lot of people were picking them to win the division. The OL was completely decimated from injuries & Bullygate but Tanny is a solid QB, Landry a stud slot receiver, and Jordan Cameron is pretty good. On defense they must've been poorly coached, because Vernon (a FA), Wake (big injury), and Suh are monsters up front. Derrick Shelby is very good, and they have good LBers. Grimes is a top corner & Reshad Jones a top safety. Ross is a bit of a flake but he's insanely rich & wants to win. Tannenbaum is a good GM, this isn't a bad job at all. You have to take some risks starting out.
