Romney turned them off, in part because of his mormon affiliation. You guys seem to forget that some people, if there's no one to vote for, won't vote at all rather than vote for the sake of opposing the other party/person. I didn't vote for GWB in 2004, but I couldn't vote against him either, so I just didn't vote. 4.7 million more evangelicals voted for Romney than for McCain. So no, being Mormon didn't turn them off all that much in the general. https://flashtrafficblog.wordpress.com/2012/11/08/more-than-6-million-self-described-evangelicals-voted-for-obama-why-what-else-do-the-exit-polls-tell-us-about-how-christians-voted/
SleepingTitan
I've thought this the entire time. I've also thought that if he doesn't really want the job and this is a favor, he will split Repubs with an Independent vote. Wonder what the favor is? It can't be money. luvyablue256
I believe he's done this to help Hillary. Think about it. Could Hillary win the nomination and general election on her own merit? I don't think so

Why should anyone be surprised he could run for president. He talked about running 4 years ago, too.

She could also get Mondale'd in the general election when her past gets repeatedly beaten over her. The reverse could happen with Trump. Both leading candidates have significant flaws, and it's impossible to predict the outcome.
