My friend and I have been reading about doing something for DFS (daily fantasy sports)... Currently, he plays as a living and moved back to Milwaukee to see his family and be back to collaborate this season for football.

Hopefully we can get a strong enough of a winning percentage to be confident in our picks/system then we are hoping to have a website up and running next baseball season. Will probably take all year to figure anything or much out but who knows. Could lead to some long term success since only 1% of fantasy players do DFS (this was back in 2013 though).

He played online poker as a living the past 10 years but has moved back home from Vegas and Canada since DFS is legal anywhere.

I love dfs. Although I haven't been that great at it so far. I'm trying to find my favorite style of tournament. I haven't gotten into the head to heads but I have heard that's the best way to build up money fast.

Davante Adams is a steal this week but I am not playing him in any tournament though. He will be used at such a high % this week that you gain no ground on anyone. In a cash game though he will at least neutralize the other players who have him (damn near everyone) so it's whatever and if he is not used by others, their loss due to the high pt/$ he will produce.

Yeah but if Adams blows up, then everyone gained an advantage on you for not playing him...

Agreed, that's the tricky part about strategically playing tournaments and not just playing who you think will do well. If you can replace Adams (similar $$ value or not) with the exact same production you gain an edge. At the end of the day its obviously about pt/$ value ultimately but on an individual player basis it's not necessarily about maximizing points per $$ per position but gaining a strategic advantage %-wise against the competition while still putting up the same amount of points.

That being said, OBVIOUSLY easier said than done but I don't believe Adams will have a 50 pt game where you need to worry that he is the player that every dominant tournament team has.

Edit: I think he will have a decent game but I would assume that he is played in over 60% of lineups just based on his price but there are plenty of other WR2's who I think could get a multi-touchdown game at a moderately similar price point.

Vegas has the Patriots/Steelers game as the highest scoring game of the week and it's projected to be a decently close game too. Those are favorable scenarios where you could get "unknown" receivers to produce large points I think because the QBs know how to spread the ball around, especially since both teams have integral players missing. (NVM, played on Thursday so not in most lineups, sorry!)

I'm familiar with this format (fitting within salary cap) but I am lost as to gow to get into this stuff. I've been reading up and somewhere it said it's better to use rb in the flex with one kind of league, 50/50 or h2h I can't remember, and better to use a pass catcher (wr/te) with the other.

What is the difference in leagues and how it affects the players you pick?

My advice would be to go with sure-thing/high floor flex players on a cash game (50/50 or h2h) but since there is a much larger chance at a low budget WR having a huge day than a low budget RB you should go WR in tournaments since you want to have the unknown players that go off that week on your lineup.

I keep trying to wrap my head around it. Any good articles about strategy and format?

The whole things seems like a lottery crapshoot. You split when the studs do well and have low % of your longshot to prevail.

My friend and I have been reading from the series "xxx for smart people" by Jonathan Bales and he is a very analytical person and a quick easy read how how to statistically minimize risk for the cash games and when to shoot for the stars on tournaments.
