Nahhh, we'll still mug you, then not report it in the news. id really love to visit Hawaii but have heard a lot of stories about how Samoans HATE white people. And they will try and lure you away from a tourist spot to stal all your shit and beat the hell out of you, my moms friend just moved there to do drywall work and got his ass kicked in a week and all his shit stolen from him. EagleEye
Helena's? On King St right? You must be Oahu. Always heard that place was da bomb. And yeah, I'm sure. Lose the okina, though. You know nobody out here sticks that in. It is pretty damn funny, though, when a tourist orders it from me without it (in pronunciation). And just today I got to savor some delicious Spam chow mein at my boys pre-school graduation party. They even brought da shave ice truck: Yeah I'm on Oahu. Helena's is on School St. not King anymore. What island you on?

Last time I was there, I lost my wallet at a mall and a teenage Samoan attempted to turn in my wallet at an outdoor food court then said he would hang onto it in case I came back. A quick ride back I went around and a lady told me someone tried to turn it in and described him to me but said he would wait around to see if I showed up. Sure enough a young teenager was sitting at or near the table I was at and returned my wallet with money and credit cards. This may be true though, but there is good people in HI. EagleEye
Stay home, haole. I've never had any issue there. I'm sure there is some truth to it, though. I've heard similar things. Haoles need to be respectful then it's cool. The problem though few of them are. Especially military ones, they're cocky and disrespectful as hell. Back in high school they used to have kill haole day.

Maui, stay up in Kula so I got those sweet onions for my poke growing within sight of my kitchen window.
Dmeade-
Yep! Awesome man. Welcome aboard. I'd imagine you may see a lot of navy and baby blue in HI in a few months.

Your drywall comment is what sealed the deal. Lots of locals no like it when haole shows up to take contracting type job. I'll go there at some point. I'm sure if your a respectful person you won't get in trouble around there. I usually try and blend in when Im visiting places and not act "touristy" Just kidding ya of course, you'll be fine as long as you are respectful and don't be anything stupid. There are certain places you just wouldn't want to be - our chef in Kona says no good happen there after dark (walk your white butt into certain bars at night and you're just asking for it). But really, as long as you can be sensitive to the culture and not get off a plane and act like you own the place, it's all good. Judging from you as a poster here, I think you'd be quite welcome. I could see you hanging in Paia.

I'm like the only guy on Maui rockin' two-tone blue and Vandy black and gold. And I get more comments on the later than the former.
Dmeade-
Coming in, taking jobs from locals...I see that. Just being your average American tourist needing to go out of his way to show respect I don't get. Sure don't be a damn asshole (for whatever reason a lot of people can be while on vacation and I would understand that dislike among locals), but tourism is what drives HI's economy and creates all kinds of jobs. Why be onrey about it? Maybe I just need further explanation from what y'all are saying. Both times of been to HI has been a wonderful pleasant experience (both to Honolulu).
