LeBeau expected to be named assistant head coach/defense according to Wyatt

Here's some of what Solomon Wilcots had to say. He played under LeBeau and was teammates with Horton.

"That's exactly what you want," Wilcots said. "Dick LeBeau drafted (Horton) into this league. That is his guy. Everything Ray knows about that defense, he learned from coach LeBeau. Dick isn't coming in to steal any thunder from Ray, and I guarantee you Ray is glad to have him.

"And if you know Dick LeBeau, there's nobody I know who doesn't like him. Everyone recognizes what he can contribute, and I guarantee you this is no slap at Ray Horton at all. This is just more knowledge, more talent at the coaching position walking in the door."

I think it's a good signing, but no one can tell me this is how things are supposed to operate in a functional organization. This is the third time in five years we've had an outside consultant/coach oversee our offense or defense. It clutters up a system that should be streamlined and makes it tougher to hold accountable, or praise, those involved. Luckily for us, he's one of the best in the business, and if we suck next year everyone's getting fired anyways.

Yeah it seems a sign of win or be fired, or just generally poorly managed team.

Well run and coached teams have assistants leave for promotions on other teams, not have coaches demoted and outside has-been people take over.  All the previous head coaches as position coaches that this team had over the last 20 years seems odd in that respect also.

I like this way more than I liked the Gregg Williams hire.

The thing I like about it most is it is being reported Horton will be under Lebeau, whereas it was never exactly clear who was running the scheme with Gray and Williams, though it was said Gray was the one running the defense.
