OILERMAN
It's getting harder and harder to write about these games week to week. I'd rather scatter shoot various topics of interest and start discussing what this team needs to do to get back on track. Obviously QB is the big issue but there is plenty of position groups that need to be upgraded and evaluated the remainder of the season. *The big question mark right now is how soon is it until Mettenberger starts. As of right now if this team doesn't clear up it's pass protection it's not going to matter. Take a look at the Atlanta Falcons since they suffered so many OL injuries, after a fast start they can't generate a good passing offense even with a top QB and top skill players. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if they got Taylor Thompson and Shonn Greene back to help shore things up. It's hard enough on a rookie QB to start but behind bad blocking and no running game it will be hard to grade him. *I personally don't feel Ken Whisenhunt deserves much blame for this teams inept play. The team had serious questions heading into the season and then suffered a ton of injuries. Before the season Vegas had two teams with less of a chance than the Titans to win the SB, the Raiders and Jags, seems about right so far. Then consider the injuries, Jake Locker, Shonn Greene, Michael Roos, Craig Stevens and Taylor Thomson on offense. Defense isn't much better, Zach Brown, Bernard Pollard, Blidi Wilson, Sensabaugh, Martin and Pitoitua have all missed most of or portions of the season. Injuries matter. * The Titans brought up Antonio Andrews from the practice squad after the Bills were interested in him and they also signed TE Richard Gordon to give them a true blocking TE. I'm sure Gordon will be activated Sunday and wouldn't be surprised if Andrews wasn't. This team needs a power RB since Greene has been injured. Might as well play them. * You want to know how bad the Titans have been, check out their turnover margin. They are tied for 9th at +2 for the season. You have to be pretty bad to be +2 for the season yet still be 2-5 overall and have a -51 points differential(5th worse). This team isn't committing a lot of turnovers to lose, they are just losing. * As of right now according to Football Outsiders the Titans have a 1.4% chance of reaching the playoffs. They actually have a better chance of having the #1 pick in the draft at 1.7% and they have a 12.2 % chance of picking in the top 3.http://www.footballo...ats/playoffodds * According to Football Outsiders the Titans are pretty spare across the board. Their DVOA rankings have them 27th overall and 24th, 24th and 25th in Offense, defense and STs. * It's a long way off but a free agent that interest me is safety Devin McCourty. The Titans need a safety and he's a young highly ranked safety. With his brother Jason on the team it might give the team an edge in signing him.Click here to view the article Mettamucil
tgo
You think Devin would take Griff's spot at FS or? Cause Griffin is a better player

OILERMAN
You think Devin would take Griff's spot at FS or? Cause Griffin is a better player Well I think they could either lap a season and play together or they could cut Griffin, he's getting older and his salary is big. I think when Griffin is at his best he's possibly better than Devin McCourty but he's so inconsistent I'd say overall McCourty is better.
tgo
Griffin is not better than Devin McCourty. He's absolutely a better safety than McCourty. And It's also interesting to me that out of all the impact free agents that could be available that you chose a safety. We're fine at safety I think. We need to sign a WR and a couple OLBs

Either way, I'd be reluctant to create another hole when we've got so many other glaring ones.

I consider safety a large hole. Wilson and Pollard(major injury) and are old and Griffin will be on the wrong side of 30 next year and has an 8.1 mill cap hit. Griffin's frequent mistakes often cost the team in huge spots as well. This team needs more consistency. On top of all that I think safety is a solid position to upgrade through free agency without much risk of signing a bust. The pass rush and safeties are the two most important positions on defense now
JLocker10
Justin Houston would be an awesome get, he's probably getting tagged though. Pats were working on an extension for McCourty in the offseason. Nothing since, but he probably won't hit the open market. Jerry Hughes would be another guy to look at. The pass rush and safeties are the two most important positions on defense now I would have thought you would have rated CB as a higher need than safety. I actually think BWW can develop into a good player though. But yeah, the SS spot is a bigger hole than FS imo. I like Damion Stafford though and hope he can fill the spot. If they don't think he can, they need to go after a SS in free agency. Btw, agreed with most of the other stuff in the blog. Was wondering when you were going to post this week's. Most likely Houston will get the tag and Hali and maybe even Bowe get released. The Chiefs are over the cap for 2015 as it stands. Not to hi-jack this thread, but does anyone know which side Hali plays in the 3-4?

tgo
Hali is likely gone after the season. He plays ROLB. I read that he has tight hips and can't cover. Just been trying to figure out if Hali would fit our system or not. I think he'd be great for us in a Terrell Suggs type role. Another name to consider is Orakpo if he can be had for reasonable money (the injury may allow a team to sign him to a short-term prove it deal). I'm expecting Morgan to back though with as much as all the coaches rave about him all the time.

Landon Collins might be a top 10 pick. It'd probably piss a lot of people off if we draft a S in the top 10, but if we keep Morgan and get a top pass rusher in FA maybe that's a route you can go. Other than Gregory, is it a great pass rusher class? Don't know enough about the other guys. Beasley is pretty small (6'0 230 lb).
