You just can't be that much of a hothead and be behind the wheel in a professional capacity. The consequences are too high. I doubt there will be any legal ramifications. I've watched that video multiple times and acting like Stewart accelerated with the intent of scaring or even clipping the guy is pure speculation. I've seen plenty of drivers swerve and accelerate past something on the road in an effort to avoid an accident. Just because he didn't slam on the breaks doesn't prove he's guilty. Stewart is a first rate asshole with a terrible temper but ultimately the guy who lost his life made a poor choice in walking out onto a track, even if they were under a caution flag, to confront a race car head on and he paid the ultimate price. It would be damn near impossible to get a jury to say Stewart acted in a negligent or malicious manner. I don't think he could even get reckless endangerment. The kid literally walked right in front of his car. The tail spin didn't happen till after impact. it's impossible to say that Stewart didn't do some of the things some of you're contending, but it's impossible from the video to prove one way or the other. How this affects his career as a racer and the kinds of regulations in place across different governing bodies of racing and the contracts higher level drivers have with their teams is another story. No1TitansFan Posted August 13, 2014 Report Share Posted August 13, 2014 Race cars are equipped with race cams, they literally can't sit at idle; it is not unusual for a driver to have to rev the engine to keep it running at slower speeds; not saying that Stewart didn't deliberately rev it, but there are other explanations. Have you ever noticed that as soon the drivers start their engines at a Nascar event they start gunning them? They aren't doing that for show. Opus74 Posted August 13, 2014 Report Share Posted August 13, 2014 A couple of other facts about sprint cars: 1. The have no clutch, transmission or flywheel. The only way to disengage the engine is with an in/out shift box. If you disengage it, you have to shut the engine off to re-engage it. So you have to keep going at least the idle speed of the engine or it just bogs down and stops. 2. The car will steer pretty abruptly one way when the throttle is punched and the other way when it's let off. The rear wheels are different diameter to make the car turn left all the time. They're kind of like sailboats -- you just try to keep them headed in the general direction you want to go. Control, especially at low speed, is imprecise to say the least. I can name 3 nascar drivers i.e.: - Jeff Gordon - Eranhardt's kid (don't know his first name but it should be Ernie..cause that would be awesome...Ernie Earnhardt.) - Tony Stewart. And how do I know Tony Stewart? I know him because he's that crazy angry ugly dude with stubble on his face who is always losing it and going after guys and trying to fight people on Sportscenter.
