They need to cut out the 4 game losing streaks if they expect to climb back into the playoff race. The Western conference is by far better and deeper than the east. Mercalius Posted January 22, 2014 Report Share Posted January 22, 2014 *Breaking News* Kevin Klein traded to NYR for Michael Del Zotto Rangers get a solid, right-handed defensive defenseman with a pretty sweet contract that has little room left to grow but will always be a solid defensive anchor. Nashville gets a 23 year old offensive D-man that showed a ton of potential two seasons ago that fills a huge need by being left-handed (letting Jones play his natural position on the right). I think this is a win, for both teams. Del Zotto has a lot of potential but was getting lost in that lineup. Hate to see Klein go as he's a fan favorite, but we needed another LHD - too many righties on the team, and many are speculating that this was done because Poile is looking to move Ellis in the near future for more forward help since he's come on and upped his value recently. They suck and have been sucking forever. Damn shame too as I love hockey. I still watch every game that's televised though I haven't been to as many games as I normally do during a season. The Rinne injury, and it's WAY longer than reported recovery time, basically made this season a goner from the getgo. Partially ticked that the FO waited so long to get a competent vet backup goalie, but at the same time, I highly doubt that would've made "too" much difference in the standings by season's end, so it's good to see what we had in Hutton/Mazanec while getting them legit NHL experience. I like the Del Zotto trade going forward. I'll miss Klein, but I completely understand why they did it. And this season has been really good for Smith, Wilson, and Jones as far as getting more meaningful ice-time and stepping up their game. Forsberg has been tearing it up in the Olympics and minors recently as well. If we end the season with another high draft pick, all the better - but I think we'll see a much better team next season once all the kiddies have a bit more development and a healthy Rinne is in net. Especially if the murmurs are true and we actually will pull the trigger on a legit top 6 forward between now and next season. Leggy has a NTC, but I keep hearing his name tossed out from a lot of folks that are interested. Much like Erat, losing him could suck, but if he could net us a young, higher-ceiling player in return it would be best for us in the long run - and hopefully give him a legit chance to go chase a Cup. As much as I would love for Nashville to have a successful hockey team, I'm done with following them and any moves they make. So far, and for too long, the return on MY investment has been poor. Gotta say, MDZ looked pretty damn decent tonight for as much whining as I've seen some Preds fans bemoaning the trade. Smooth passes in the offensive zone and made a nice breakup on a 2 on 1. The first period (ended in a 2-2 tie) was some of the most intense up and down hockey I've seen in a while. It was their first meeting since the playoff series last year when the Hawks came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Wings and eventually claim the Cup. The Wings young forwards (minus Datsyuk and Franzen) were simply determined to not be outplayed by the elite Hawks top 2 lines, they ended up winning 5-4 in a SO (the Wings had previously lost a ton of games in SOs). The wings are finally healthy on the blue line. No offense to the Preds, but if they devoted the same resources to develop players who can put the puck in the net as they do to stopping it, they might be a lot further along. Don't blame them for drafting Jones; but at the same time, thinking that trading a Dman for one who shoots opposite of the guy they swapped him for is the answer to their deficiencies is a bit of a stretch. Guest Posted January 27, 2014 Report Share Posted January 27, 2014 I would love to have Legwand. He can be great depth at centre for any team. He can be a decent #2 centre and a great #3. Good character playoffs type player. The challenge for any team will be fitting him under the cap since the preds won't take salary back. Leggy tied the game with 10 seconds left on a perfect rebound then in OT Hutton brick-walled a breakaway attempt from a fluke bounce, then Cap'n Weber got the GWG 10 seconds later from a beautiful drop pass from Wilson. The guy is just a beast and an elite player, but because the award voting is such a joke and he plays in a small, non-traditional market on a mediocre team he probably won't win it.
