The official Titans Report draft podcast will be recording Thursday night, what topics are you interested in?This Thursday will mark the second year that the Two Tone Crew covers a Titans draft and we're looking to do it even bigger and better than last year. Re-reading that Bradshaw thread, I had forgotten how upset some people got when his injuries were discussed.

Free Agency waxes as the draft comes into view. Who is still available? The Titans ended up signing Shonn Greene but before Free Agency started many fans were lusting after a different player to backup Chris Johnson. Ahmad Bradshaw. were certainly mixed, with one group noting his injury concerns and locker room issues while others downplayed the amount of time missed and noted both his relative youth and "complete back" reputation. At least one person went so far as to say that he would take Bradshaw straight up over Johnson and others noted that (at his likely signing price) he'd be a better deal than the Titans' starter. As of April 5th Bradshaw has yet to be signed, though according to NFL.com he is on the radar of both Denver and Pittsburgh, pending the result of multiple foot and ankle procedures. (Bradshaw has "undergone three known operations on his right foot, along with procedures on his left foot and both ankles.") With deals of notable length and dollar value , Bradshaw isn't the only experienced and formerly productive player yet to sign with another team. Green Bay's former defensive leader is still available. Charles Woodson recently told ESPN that his age was making a new contract tougher to come by. As mentioned, the Titans already signed Greene to backup Johnson. They also their roster at the Safety position. Neither Bradshaw or Woodson are likely to be in the Titans' plans. That makes sense Merc. If the defense isn't regularly playing in our backfield and the Titans actually have a viable alternative to CJ then he'll be gone if he doesn't succeed. The issues up front and the absence of an alternative on the team (everyone doing even worse than CJ) have been big reasons the fan-blame heaped on CJ hasn't been matched by the team. They're actually trying to address those concerns this year. It should make CJ feel the pressure... and apparently he is. We'll see if the new alternative actually does better or not. The alternative to CJ is the biggest issue.

Some teams will downgrade more for that... others won't care nearly as much and will simply value his theoretical playmaking ability. I suspect we'd be more of the former, but who knows?

I encourage you to listen to the podcasts from last year, apparently for the first time.

The guy said money bad and Jared Cook gone, then proved he knew jack about the team and ranked them in a laughable and ridiculous manner. It was an uneducated generalization that lacked reason. It's hard to be unfair to that, unless you come from the perspective of hating everything about the team already... which some fans do. Pro Football Focus actually had McCourty as undervalued, well rounded, and having shown in 2012 that he will earn future years of his deal. 2nd down you mean? Not sure, week 11 against the Hags... 16 yard line running right. There were actually quite a few negative runs that were going to be negative runs no matter what... and on some of them CJ didn't accept that right away and ran backwards to try and change the play's fate. Negative eleven has to be one of those. It wasn't even a run from shotgun, so I can't imagine he got the ball eleven yards deep. That stat cracks me up. Gained seven yards on 1st down, no penalties, still ended up at 3rd & 14.

The Titans had one hundred and thirty-six 3rd & long opportunities (in excess of 3rd and 5) in 2012. Only twelve of them resulted from sets of downs where CJ ran on both 1st and 2nd down. CJ ran on 1st and 2nd down forty-one times, so 29% of the time the Titans were in 3rd & long. Interestingly, the longest 3rd & long resulting from a CJ run on both 1st and 2nd down was 3rd & 14. On that set of downs CJ actually ran for seven yards on 1st down, then lost eleven on 2nd down. Such was the Titans season.

Then to sum it up, if you look at failed 3rd down conversions: On those sets of downs the Titans passed more often than they ran on the first down... and averaged less per pass than per run... and came up with no gain or a loss on a higher percent of attempts when passing. They also passed more often than they ran on second down... and averaged less per pass than per run... and came up with no gain or a loss on a higher percent of attempts when passing. If one is trying to determine what contributed most to failed third down conversions, it was failures passing on first and second down... not rushing.

I'm not sure why this would need explained, but this has zero to do with play calling and everything to do with actual results. It is a backward-looking descriptive look at things, not a forward looking projection. If there were a statement made it would be along the lines of "we should have passed BETTER." We should have run better as well and I'd respectfully suggest that you reset your filter to factory settings to consider the data for what it is while keeping in mind the inter-relatedness of pass/run success noted in the article.
